    Hello.

What's the difference between the 66 and the 67 Buick Skylark GS?
The bodies seem pretty much alike. The trunk hood, rear lights, grille is different, I can see, and the brakes? What else?
    Is a 67 a much better buy than a 66??
And what about the GS California? This car was built on a Special frame I have heard. Does that mean that it still had front drum brakes in 67?

    Best regards from Jette

the major differance between 66 and 67 is the nail head motor 66 had a nail head 67 started the traditional wedge motor.a california GS was more like a no thrills GS they were post cars withe bench seat only and special seat covering it also only came with the 340-4 engine no 400 iam not sue if you could get a 3 or 4 speed i think only auto trans as far as disc brakes i dont see why not a have a 67 special deluxe with factory disc brakes. :TU:

you hit the nail on the head.......here are all the differences brakes (which were on certains cars only) hood bumper grill, taillights , rear bumper , trunk lid, rear pan in between tailights, steering wheel, and on gs models the 67 had the 400 where as the 66 had the 401 nailhead. the lesser cars had the same motors 300/340s

oh and a the turbo 350 trans was an option

as for the better buy 67s usually go higher than a 66 however a 66 is harder to clone into a gs if you were to want to clone a gs

personally i like the looks of a 66 better than a 67 especailly in your basic skylark b/c the 67 skylark grill isnt very pretty imo (i love the gs/special grill however) other things i dont like about the 67 as good as the 66 are the side scoops on the fenders, the steering wheel, and i like the 66 gs hood better

but both are awesome cars and wouldnt bitch about either

the gs california is a special with the 340 and all the gs badges and hood scoops put on it.......more of apperance package installed by dealers

Disc brakes were not standard until the mid '70's. I think they were required on the Stage 1 package starting in 1971. All Skylarks/GS cars came with non-power drum brakes standard, everything else was an option.

I think the ST-300 and ST-400's (switch pitches) were the only automatics available. I think the 66 GS had an ST-300 two speed auto, whereas the 67 GS 400 had an ST-400 (3 spd auto), while the '67 GS340 and California still had an ST-300. I don't think you could get a small block car with a 3 speed automatic until 1969, right?

your right man 69 was the 1st turbo 350 ...........you only got the st400 with the 400 engine in 67........rest were a st300 which is a 2 speed

Sportwagons were available with the 340 and a 3 speed ST-400 transmission in 1967 and the 1965-69 LeSabres could have it too with their 300-340-350 engines. It was called the "400" option package and included a 4 barrel carb.
