I'm looking at the above car. No rust, runs , 283 3 speed automatic Needs windshield and complete interior. Tires Opinion? Value, fair purchase price? Thanks Paul
Paul funny you should mention. Saw an ol fella driving this pulling into Walgreens. He gave me his phone # hopefully this winter he’ll let her go.
is that a 'glide in the 66 ? or a trans swap ? oem 3 speed ? either way - yeah , hell of a sleeper . I had a maroon 2dr 67 Malibu 283 and 'glide mid 70's , great little car . got it as a jacked up street racer wannabe . lowered it back down , 7" wagon steels with f70-14"s , homemade dual exhaust , HD shocks , good tune ( 2bbl ! ) . with the glide it had a slowish takeoff and too much rpm up top but kick it down about 30-40 mph and it flew . handled decent too . that '64 2dr has some potential .
Owner said it was an electronic 3 rd gear ? I'm not that familiar..... I'll get some pics. its really cool.
My 2 cents: Never buy a 4 door. You will never get your money back - period. (from experience). Chev had some weird "overdrive" stuff on manual trans. In 64 they had a handle that you pulled out to enable an overdrive - but you had to do it when stopped. So you had to plan ahead....
I have owned, and sold several 4 door vehicles. I made money on every one. But, I did buy them 'right'.
I realize that a 50K mile original car will probably not be changed much. But I thought I'd add this - growing up, I had a friend whose Dad had a '66 or '67 base model 2 dr (el strippo base trim level) with a 300hp 327 4-speed (rubber floor mats, no radio & 2 speed wipers) and it was a SLEEPER .... non-assuming, grocery-getting car. I bet that 4dr's and wagon models coulda been optioned in many interesting ways, too.
the 327-4spd version sounds fun . also had a 65 Malibu wagon , same 283 'glide setup . and it was a 2 door ! got a couple comments on that aspect . ton of miles , used a little oil . drove it back n forth to buffalo for college one winter . ran fine . REALLY rusty , had a 2x4 going from frame rail to frame rail holding the front bench seat up . nice !
4 doors are fun, there was a nice looking 67 Buick Skylark or Special in the leads about a week ago in WI I have a 65 Special 4 door 300 4 speed, fun car though funny thing mostly older women look at it until there husband's/boyfriend sees the stick. Regards
My first car was a 1970 Chevelle, it was badged a 300 Deluxe, but I'm not sure that model existed in 1970. There was nothing deluxe about it, it was the biggest POS on 4 bald wheels. It had that horrible 250 and an automatic, slower than molasses in January. The 6 was so bagged out, it didn't heat, there was no way to generate heat in winter. Froze to death in that wreck...and man, could that engine leak! It didn't have one gasket that was actually holding. I never want to see one again.
