I was trying to take my ignition out of my 66 skylar. I got the circle key looking nut on the outside loose but at the end it get too tight to finish taking off . I'm I doing it wrong?

You need to take out the ign. lock. First tighten the nut back up. Put the key in the ign. turn the ign. to the left pos.. If you shove something in the little hole on the face of the ign. switch you will feel something trying to push it back out. Try to keep pressure on what ever you are using in that hole and turn the ign. counter clockwise. After a few tries it should come right out. Then remove the nut.

If the ignition switch is original along with the door locks, remove the door panel & remove the door lock. The ignition & door locks are usually the same in '66. Bring the lock to a lock smith & by using the numbers on the lock can make you a new key.

I have taken one out by prying off that cover then hack away at the lock where the nut will hit. But that's a pain though it did work. Then I needed a new ign. switch.
I have 4 67 cars and 2 will use the same ign. key. :Do No: Also my brothers 74 Challenger ign. key fit my wifes 89 Dogde. I also have a Master lock key that fits another with whom I work with. My point being if you have other keys laying around or know someone with a GM key from the same era perhaps 1 will fit.
Aftermarket ign. locks are avail. once it's out. Of course by then you will have found the keys.
    Best of Luck.......Ray
