    speaker

Hi. I have a 65 Buick Skylark GS. I put a rear speaker in and I found the best way was to get a 6 by 9 from an early 80s full size GM in a wrecking yard. They are a 10 ohm delco (if original equipment is still in the car) which is probably the correct match and are as good or better than original. You can usually find a real good one cheap. Take both as there will be 2 and a good spare never hurts. You will have to run a jumper lead from the neg. terminal to ground. About 5 inches of wire and a terminal eyelet and fasten it under one of the 4 mounting holes. The originals only had a single terminal for pos. and were grounded to the casing.
    Good luck, John

    rear speaker grille

Hi. I wouldn`t think a rear speaker in that car would need a grille unless you had the base model Special with the plain board rear shelf. My 65 GS has a rear speaker and the woven material rear shelf has perforations at the spaeker location for the sound.

It Is The Base Unit - I Remember It Having A Grill Back In 67 When I Put It In My First Gs - No Perfs In Shelf Plate - Went Right In The Middle - Speaker Had A Long Blue Wire With Male And Femail Plugs - But I Slept Since Then - Putting The Amfm Reverb Stock Unit Like I Had It Back Then - - Thanks John

No its not the base unit
...the skylark GS has the perf holes in the center with a screen mesh covering the whole package tray...what you have is not correct...you have a replacement base package tray cover...year one sells the correct replacement for the 66 GS....then you dont need a cover...the only cover was for the optional rear defroster..oh and the blue wire coming out of the back of your radio has to be run to the speaker.... also you nee the correct 3 pronged radio knob...on the tuning side ..I forget the techincal name for it..so you can fade the front to the back...when you pull the knob off you will see a jumper wire.....you have to pull that out first..look in your buick shop manual it should have a pic of it......I could take you a pic if you want ..or send you a copy of the page from the assembly manual...

if your gonna do it...do it right !

    fader control

Hello Ken. As you said earlier you want to install the original style amfm and reverb? Do you already have these items? If you don`t have the fader switch(the inner knob with the 3 pins) and you cannot get an original, I have some aftermarket ones that mount at the dash bottom. I don`t know if you can still buy them.

Good evening Jim - I am gunna do it and it will be done right - pulled right knob off to check and see if it had the fader knob in place - it did - u shaped jumper ( like a little staple ) was taped on the top of the radio - fader in place - blue rear speaker with female and male ends on wire - reverb bolted above drivers side rear wheel well in trunk with wiring harness running to under drivers side front mat - on off switch for same was located in paper sack under passengers seat - obviously not hooked up - shelf plate had a hole in already from a previous speaker and I will order correct shelf tray from Year One I the morning - thanks for your coaching Jim.

Year One quoted 37.95 for the packing shelf with 31.27 shipping - do you have the webb site and or number for the "REM" company that Jim Lore suggested that I check with. Thanks - Ken
