Ive been told quite a few times that the carb on the 66 Riviera's is a 1 year only thing. What makes it so special and different from other Q-Jets?

It wasn't that the carb was unique, its just the application that's different. It was the last year of the nailhead engine and the first year of the QJ for Buick. Chevy used 'em in '65. In '66 the QJ was an option on the 401" Skylark GS and was std. on the 425" Riviera GS. '67 and later the QJ was standard on all the newly designed wedge head Buick 400, 430 & 455. The fuel inlet is facing the passenger side and there were a few other minor differences (the way they locked out the secondaries) and a few other things that don't come to mind right now, I'd have to go down to the shop and take a look.

yes, there are a number if differences as well as the Buick qjet with an intregal choke and with the secondary vacuum piston/linkage. The base on the '67 is the same, but now with the divorced choke-
