I believe there is a screw on each side that ties with the rear Qtr glass window sweeps. Then on the underside you will find several small screws (about five) holding the trim.

I ended up manhandling it off last night. It looks like it was reinstalled at some point and they screwed down 2 on each piece closest to the doors. Except they screwed them down from on top, making it nearly impossible to get off. I had to pry the back loose and then slide it off the top of the 2 screwed on clips. This can't be how it's supposed to be reinstalled??

As stated above there is a screw on top right at the back of the side glass. Then there are clips with little wings that slip over the body lip all the way around. Probably about 8 of them.
There is a tool that slips between the trim and body that you use to release the wings.

If needed i could post a picture of the clip and tool

    Let me know.

I'm more confused now that I got it off on how to get it back on a freshly painted car without scratching it. You have to essentially thread the one that is screwed in through and then push the clips over the lip of the sheet metal correct?

No, take Dukes advice. No screws go through the polished visual part of the trim. Maybe add some pictures of your trim. I think I have an extra set that I can get pictures of also.

I will add a picture, my issue was that someone screwed one of the clips down on the very front of the passenger side and 2 of the clips on the front of the drivers side. So I essentially had to thread the trim off of the clips. I eventually got it, but not sure if this is how it's supposed to be? If the clip had been screwed on from underneath I could have taken it off and then easily popped the trim off with the clip still attached like all the others.

Yes but the trim comes off of the clip.

Not the trim and clip together.

You install all the clips to the body then the trim to the clips.

Just seems like a silly way to install. My trim was predrilled for the vert boot cover. I may just use stainless self tappers in conjunction with the clips when I reinstall. The whole tread the trim over one screwed in clip over fresh seems unnecessary.

    Seems like an easier way

Someone messed up my pinchweld on my 67 by putting snaps in it. I purchased a replacement pinchweld but did not get around to installing it.

    Ok
Now I understand. You have non-original snap fasteners thru your trim molding for the parade boot.

You should be able to just unscrew the fasteners to remove the stainless trim.
