I haven't been able to find much info on this but here we go. I currently have a set of Billit Specialties Street Lites on my 70 Camaro and want to update it. That being said I want to try to fit those wheels on my 66 Special. I know the fronts will fit with no problem(17x7, 235/40r17) but the rears might shoot my plan. They're 17x9.5 with a 5.5bs but I have a 285/40r17 on them. They'll fit a 66 Chevelle(tight) but the Special looks like the wheelwell area is more narrow. These wheels would really be a nice step towards the pro-touring look but if they won't fit? Thanks

The Chevelle 12 bolt rear is one inch narrower than the '66 Buick rear, that might help it fit. Did the Chevelle have a 12 bolt?

5" backspace is good for an 8" wheel, so 5.5" would be good for a 9 inch. You're going to be real close. Might fit with rolling the fender lip. A 12 chevelle rear will tuck them in another 1/2"....
    A 285 is a wide tire. I've run 275's and they're tight.
You have the tire, give it a try! Let us know how it goes.

I might try sticking them on it just to see what happens. I can't remember if the chevelle had a twelve bolt or not. Been a few years. I didn't realize the difference betwen the ten and twelve bolts either. I wonder why they were different lengths. I git a 275/60 under a 65 chevelle years ago but it was only after rolling lips and very carefully bulging the fenderwell with wooden blocks and a porta-power. Looked great because the car was so low that the top if the rim was even with the lip. Had a roller-cammed 468 in it and was a daily driver back in 1983 or so. Good times!
