I was at a Moper junkyard today with some mopar friends when I spied a 66 Cat four door hardtop. The owner said he'd sell me the engine for $50. I told him I'm not into nailheads and he said its a 430. Now I know that a 430 wasn't available for 66, but I'm gonna go back and open the hood this week. Maybe its been swaped. It was kinda buried, and we were on the way out, so I didn't look. My mopar friend needs his exhaust welded so he said he'd pay, so I guess I'm going back for a free engine, unless its obviously toast. Since I'm not a Nailhead guy, if its a 401 or 425, anyone interested? I'm near Da 'Burgh. You know, the home of the future superbowl champs, the STEELERS!

    Grab it!

Dan reguardless if it's a nailhead or a 430 grab it for that price. The 66 Nailhead could have the Q-jet on it and the tranny SP400 is a gem too.
Coming to Hershey or Carlisle I'll be more than happy to swap you some dead presidents for a Nailhead and SP400.:Brow:

    Doug,

If you head this way I'll show you something really sick. A local boneyard has a rotted-to-uselessness 65 GS that has the 401 upside down in the hoodless engine compartment. Bummer of it all is it appears to have been a four gear.:ball: The STEELERS are still here! Thats all you need to know this year........STEELERS! The dude told me $75 total if I wanted the tranny with it. Don't know if Mopar man is covering the $25 extra. I'll keep youns posted.

    dualqwad ...just another lost soul

For $75 bucks it would be hard to pass that deal up.

    Hey Floyd,
Does that car still have any of the 4 speed stuff like the pedals, linkage, bellhousing and/or flywheel? :Do No:

    Robert,

Good question. That car is toast. The old section of the boneyard is overgrown. I won't even try to see it again till the fall. I can't even remember what made me think it was a stick. Don't get excited, but maybe the 401 had a bell. I CAN"T remember for sure. I go junkyarding in the fall whenever I can, so I've seen lots of stuff, but most of it is northern rotted junk. As a matter of fact I went to look at a 50s (1952?) Buick for a friend of a friend today. It was beyond junk. What else was there was even sicker. A completely rotted 100% junk 1960 Electra ragtop! Black with a red interior. What a shame. I only discovered this board in December, so when I start junkyarding again I'll take notes or something. Maybe even buy some parts that I think youns will need.

A 1960 Electra ragtop Black and red?:Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

Man, you are killin me Dan!

See my avatar? Yep, black 60 Electra 225 convertible.

I know you said she is a junker but I'd be happy to pay you for anything salvagable stainless steel trim wise, the lower (and probably shot ) extruded aluminum rocker panels etc etc.

I'll take care of you if you can get anything decent off it.

Please stay in touch if you go back.

I was looking at your projects and saw the 72 listed.Hook me up on that Electra and I'm sure I can dig up some stuff you need for the 72:Brow:

    John,

Thanks for the offer on the 72 stuff, but as of now that car is for sale. I got sidetracked working on a Regal and I need my garage back. I'll find out about the Electra this week if I can. I don't know who owns it. It was a friend of a friend who showed me were it is, so I'll have to wait for more info before I try to remove parts.

    Ok Dan,

I will need to look but I may have some Wildcat stuff also from my 67 I used to own.

I'll wait to hear from you. Thanks again.

    John,

I guess you know what 100% junk means now. I'm still gonna inquire to see whats up and if there are any parts that made it into storage. What a shame!:ball:

    Doug,

Its a 401. I kinda figured that. It still has oil and antifreeze. Didnt see any crap in the carb, though the flaps show rust. I'm gonna have to work my a$$ off to retrieve it, not to mention do some welding to pay for it. Normally I don't try to profit a whole lot, but I kinda got to on this one due to all the work involved. Will you show me $200 for the combo and pick it up reasonably soon? Storage is outdoor at my place, but I will cover it with plastic well. I'm 3 1/2 hours west of carlisle.

:ball: Darn, I already have a spare 401. If it had been a 425 with a q-jet or a 2x4 setup I'd been out there with coveralls on and helping to pull it out. I will have to pass on this one. Many Thanks for the heads up on what appears to be a solid combo.
Would it be OK for me to let my other Nailhead buddies know about the availability of this motor and trans?? I won't mention prices just what you have found. Hate to see it go to waste if it doesn't have to. That is if nobody else here isn't interested first.
Keep us informed of what else you find that 4 speed A-body would be a great find.:TU:

    Doug,

I'll probably get the engine anyway, but I'll wait till I have it home before I tell anyone else its for sale. I just wanted to see if there was any interest first. I'll let youns know when I get it. Might be awhile since I gotta line up a truck. I sold my pickup to buy a GN posi. Prioritys:grin:

    Sounds Good.

If and when you get back to the yard see if that '65 Skylark has any stainless wheel well trim as they are very hard to find in any condition. If it does have them and they are in useable condition for a driver be it one or all four I'll buy them from you.
Thanks for keeping us Nailheaders informed of you finds.:TU:

    Doug,

Someone else here on the board is wanting that 401. He waited for your descision first before contacting me. I wanted to let you know before you let anyone else know about it. As far as that 65 GS goes, I'll see it again in the fall. Be warned, a lot of what I find is useless northern rotted junk. Don't be surprised if there is nothing left. If you or Dualquad want, I can post the number of the junkyard. Their old section is so buried that they might even tell you to wait till it clears. Don't let them tell you its not there. I saw it with my own eyes. Unless they scraped stuff since last Oct.
