I'm looking for more info on GS 340's than I already have. Mainly production figures. I know BUICK made 3692 of them, but I thought I read somewhere that California GS's were included in that number. MY VIN is 434177B121026 and it is Platinum Mist. I know it was built in Baltimore. I'm aware that info on this car is hard to find, but anything more I already Know would be a plus. I believe I have every bit of literature offered on this model, but maybe I'm missing something. Anybody out there willing to share info?

go to www.google.com and type in "buick california gs".

You will get several websites with alot of history on that model. From there, you can probably make contacts for GS340 info.

Model 43417 is the GS 340 and all the CA GS' were coupes(thin-pillar) 43407 and totals were included with the Special production numbers, 8937 of which 1577 were CA GS and another 544 where plain Special coupes with GS ornamentation.

    67GS340,
I would like to know what code letters are stamped in your "Buick" Rallye Wheels. I am trying to finish a wheel article for the Build Sheet and that is 1 piece of info that I need. The codes will be located at the valve stem, under the trim rings.
    Thanks
    Duane

    Duane,
I have a '67 GS 400 conv that came with disc brakes so it has the "Buick" rallys that are similar to a Chevy. They were painted body color (Blue Mist for my car). I can check tomorrow and post the codes of the wheels if it would help you, or email you a digital picture.

By the way articles like you are describing are what I look forward to reading in The Buildsheet. I got my first issues today, I'm excited!

    Gary,
Thanks, the letter codes for the wheels are all I need for the 67 Rallye wheels. I already have a beautiful picture of these wheels in the 14" wheel ID article.

I also need a picture of a 69-70 Super Sport wheel, preferably of one mounted on a car. These are the 14" wheels that look like the Chrome wheels but are painted and have trim rings.

These are the last things I need to finish the article. I even listed the different stamped steel centers on the 14" chrome wheels so you can tell the 65-70 from the 71-72 wheels. I was hoping to have it in the next "Build Sheet" but will probably not make the cut-off date.

For you guys that do not know about the "Build Sheet" it is the bi-monthly newsletter for the Buick Performance Group. If you join the BPG you still get a copy of the 3 back issues. They have some interesting articles in them. The build sheet alone is worth the $35.00 a year.

    Letter Codes

    DUANE,
The letter codes you are looking for on the GS 340 red rallye wheels are "DG". Glad I can help. Any other info you might need?

    Guys,
I know the 67 and 68 "Chevrolet Style" Rallye wheels were painted body color on our buicks except for the 67 GS 340 cars.
My question is this, are the wheels painted red on all GS 340 cars? I have only seen White GS340's and have heard they were also available in other colors.
    Again thanks for the help.

    red rallyes

    DUANE,
To the best of my knowledge, all '67 GS 340's came with red rallye wheels. I own a Platinum Mist '67 GS 340 and I have all 5 original red rallyes. As you probably know the GS 340 was only available in white or platinum mist.

    Duane,
If I'm not mistaken the wheels were painted body color for most GS 400s colors but not for ALL colors, example Motor Trend did a road test on a white GS 400 with disc brakes in the April 1967 issue, the wheels were painted black, not white like the body. My theory is they did this because the white wheels would quickly look dirty on these disc brake cars. There may be other colors that would have not been available with with body colored wheels but I'm not sure. Larry Miller from Statesville, NC, is probably the person to ask about this as he has many '67s and really knows them well. There's another gentleman in the GSCA that is a '67 GS expert but I can't find his card but if do I'll give him a call about this subject. Hope this helps.

    Good afternoon:

    My friend has owned 3, 1967 post GS's and one 1967 GS400.
    1. 67 California GS, Cream Color/Green Vinyl Top with a 300cid, 2bbl and A/C
    2. 67 GS Special Deluxe, White Color, 340, 4bbl. with A/C
    3. 67 GS Special Deluxe, Gold Color, 340, 4bbl no A/C
    All were original paint
All his 67's small blocks had chrome road wheels and drum brakes and the 400 had wheel discs (hubcaps) and drum brakes. It was a very highly optioned car with power seat, window, A/C etc.
Another buddy had one with Disc Brakes and the Rally's painted body color turquois.
    Duane:
I sent you these pictures of 69/70 Super Sport wheels off my sold 1970 GS350 with the codes legible a while ago. Do I need to resend?
    Thx and Happy Holiday's

Thanks for all the help guys, and yes I have talked to Larry Miller, I have known him for years, last year he helped us Judge 2 67 GS's in the Concours class and we were glad to have him. He is probably THE most knowledgable person regarding 67 Gran Sports. I got a lot of info from him, but he was not sure about all the body/wheel colors. The wheels on his GS 340 are also Coded "DG".

    John,
I checked back through my records and do not have any pictures of the 14" 69-70 Super Sport wheels. I must not have received then, or they have expired from my e-mail list. I am looking for a picture of one mounted on a car with the trim ring and center cap. If you have one I would really appreciate it to finish the article. Thanks for all your help.
