Nice looking car, I wonder what his reserve is? Did it look like that when you sold it?

Awesome looking car, too bad the pictures suck for trying to get 16grand for a car. TAKE IT OUT OF THE GARAGE!!!!!

Needs some good overall shots to really get a good feel of the cars personality. Daylight pics are the best.

Hey Nick, (Chi-town 67) I saw this car in person and it is more beautiful in person than in the photos. Ron (current owner) has done a magnificent job on this car. I mean it is really mint and nicely done. I loved it and tried buying it for asking price, but I wanted the car running before I bought it. He turned me down saying he just doesn't want to get it running. According to Ron It hasn't run in 8 years and he said there is something wrong with the trans. He further explained that there is a vibration that he has not been able to locate and has changed everything but the trans. I asked if I could help him get it running and take it to my trans guy (Jimmy's) so he could check it out. He flat out turned me down, and I was offering him his asking price. Do you have any insight on a problem with a bad vibration in this car??? I've been looking for years for a nice Gran Sport and this is the first one I really liked and was ready to buy, and it was local. I just don't want to chase another gremlin. Been there before. Very disappointing

The car had no vibration issues when I owned it. It even went down the strip several times with no problems. I don't understand his logic regarding the sale of this car. If it were me still owning it, and you offered what you did, it would have been GONE. Maybe he really doesn't want to sell it. I think that the photos he posted with his listing, really kept the bidding low. He never showed a full shot of the car. He'll never sell it unless he gets it running, IMHO.

Thanks Nick for the response. One more question....Did you put the chevelle 12 bolt rear end and 455 engine in the car? Just trying to narrow down the mysterious vibration he is trying to find. To answer your question I think he does want to sell the car or at least he said it really needs to go. For some reason he told me he just wants someone to come and get it and tow it away without having to get the motor running. He also has an 80 Malibu that he seems to enjoy more. He's been taking the Malibu to that large Michigan cruise (forgot what it's called) event with his son for several years. As much as I want to roll the dice and buy this car, I just can't without knowing what's wrong with it.

Yes, I put the 455 and the 12 bolt in the car back in 1986. The rear end came out of a '67 Chevelle and all I did to it was put a 410 gear in it and new axle bearings and seals. Also put in new u-joints and balanced the drive shaft. The engine was rebuilt in 1995 and ran strong up until the time I sold it in 1998. The engine was again rebuilt sometime after Ron got the car. I don't know when that happened. There was never a vibration issue when I had the car. I really don't know how he expects someone to drop 16K on a car that you can't even hear run. If you're still that interested in it, I would try to talk him into getting it running at the very least. That would narrow down the vibration problem to remainder of the drive train, which shouldn't be that big of a deal to sort out. But if the engine is the source of the vibration than that's another story. I think he stated in his ad that the car had a trans problem. Maybe it's the converter or the flex plate?? Good luck if you pursue it! I would like to see it stay in the Chicago area and being driven again.

Nick, He said he has changed the harmonic balancer, fly wheel/flex plate, three different torque converters, new drive shaft balanced twice, and checked the pinion angle. Wheels balanced, and I don't know what else, but supposedly the only thing he did not check was the trans and that's why he is saying a trans problem because that is all that's left. He actually doesn't know if it's the trans but says that's all that's left so it must be that. He had the motor rebuilt 8 years ago by Andresen and it was balanced etc. and Andresen said there is no way the engine is the problem. Since you're from the area I'm sure you've heard of Jimmy's transmission in Mundellein. Jimmy probably does 75 percent of the Buick communities transmissions. All I wanted to do was take it to Jimmy so he could do a quick inspection to see if the trans had a problem. Ron said "No he can't do that". :Do No: I never fall in love with a car because that's how people get stuck with junk. However, I am considering calling him back and trying again. Thanks again for talking with me about this. Hope to meet you sometime

Ok, If he thinks it's in the trans, why does that prevent him from getting the engine running? I'm not getting the logic behind all this. He's got a serious buyer interested and he's not doing anything to help with the sale of this car that he wants gone.:Dou:

Red Flag................Red Flag.....................Red Flag................ I would walk away from it. Most likely it has a large issue.

Oh Ya Brian, the flags are waving like crazy. Just trying to rationalize for this guy and give him a couple options if he wants to sell it to me. Absolutely no way I would buy the car without it running and getting checked out. Thanks for the red flags though...lol.

Good chance the seller knows it won't ever run or already knows what it will take to make it run and doesn't want to invest the money. Maybe it even has a blown motor. The car looks nice but most likely has a an extreme issue.

Let someone else buy the headache. You will be much happier in the long run. IMO
