The original on my car is black, I would imagine it depended upon what was available when they assembled each car as well as where it was assembled. Does the end pop off this one to give access to the screw head or is the stud molded in the plastic?
this is DIECAST CHROME.....the threaded stud is part of it..plstic started in 69 and its black.the plastic ones a screw goes thru it issome time in late 70 71 up... i took this from a 67 GS...i have NOS ones too.and i sell some of those, but they are more expensive.......anyway, these where so big they got knocked off, and where replaced later by GM, etc, all 67 a-bodys are supposed to have these..impalas chevelles GTOs etc..if ya think its wrong i dont know what to say... it could be a time frame, it could be a plant thing..but ive pulled these longs ones of of 67s...and 67 only, i actually looked it up in a parts manual...and the pics is theis long one.. left to right..67..middle 68..right 69 and some time til 70....its black plastic and the stud is built in..

Hey Ryan..unless you want NOS just to say ya have NOS, the used one is good enough for just about any car..if ya want an NOS its $35 shipped...or 20 for used..the NOS ones are not in a box they came in a cardboard bin...the dealerships got these in bulk..in an envelope...mark
Not sure which one it's supposed to be now, but I know my original, unmolested 67 GS had the short die-cast chrome one.
my 67 special which is a low mile untouched car has the short one also. but it is a special and not a skylark or GS
i dont doubt short ones in cars...GM made running changes..these long ones are huge compared to the short one..you hit it right and it breaks the turn signal switch, ive found the long ones on floor boards of cars, and the switch would be broken out.. All i know is ive taken them out of 67 GS's and in an assy manual, ive seen the long ones..ive taken them out of 67s, 25 years ago..as a matter of fact, this one came off a 67 skylark with tilt that i parted last year
