buickdreamin I need a new old car ...

Unexpected problems with my new SportWagon have forced me to part with my convertible (see avatar). I bought the car back in 1985 intending to do a quick fix and drive it. The more I looked, the more I found needed fixed, and then life got in the way. I'll try and list as much as I can about the car, and post some pics tonight.

    BODY

This is an original northeast car, so there is plenty of rust, some fixed, some not. The quarters actually weren't that bad. There was some rust around the openings and some on the bottoms behind the wheels. Unfortunately, I missed the rusted out floors and cowl. The cowl was repaired with a donor, and the floors patched. Some of the body mount locations are still missing (braces). The trunk floor isn't bad, but does have some patches. The trunk lid is pretty nice with no holes that I remember, but the lip is rusted on the back in one or two spots. The front fenders came out of Tennesee and were off of a 66 special. They don't fit right in the front, the bolt locations are different. I think there was one small hole in the bottom of one of them, don't remember which. The radiator support is pretty nice, the battery tray area is thin, but no major pieces missing. The inner fenders are both very nice. Doors aren't too bad, the passenger has part of the inner bottom lip missing, and a dent near the quarter. The drivers is the same except the dent is larger and in the middle of the door. The top is out of adjustment but a new black top is included. The top pump was rebuilt, but one cylinder leaks like a sieve. Windshield is cracked, but a good used one is included. No problems with the hood. The frame has been patched numerous times and should be replaced.

    ENGINE

The engine is a 300 from another 67. It was freshened with new rings and bearings, otherwise all original, and only 71,000 miles on it. It has a too big cam that sounds great, but idles terrible. Cylinder heads got a valve job and some home-brewed port matching. The intake is an aluminum 4 barrel off of a 64 300, the carb is off of a 67 340. Stock exhaust manifolds dump into a dual exhaust in good shape. Has a home made ram air setup. Has a ticking lifter that might be due to the thicker head gaskets that I used, but don't know for sure.

    TRANSMISSION

ST300 completely rebuilt back in the 80's with performance mods as outlined in an old article that I had. Switch pitch converter works great. Not original to the car, but always behind the above engine.

    DIFF

    Nice, tight 2.79 posi.

    INTERIOR

Bucket seats out of a 68 GS350 were recovered in a generic pattern also back in the 80's. Column shift. Back seat original and would need recovered. Front door panels are toast, rears aren't bad. No carpet.

    MISCELLANEOUS

Originally a blue-blue car with a black top, I was going platinum mist-black with a black top. Car has factory cruise control, but since the original transmission is gone, it does not work, but most other parts are there. This car has a very low serial number, actually had some 66 parts on it when I first got it. It appears the quarters were stamped for both types of emblems, and then the unused holes were leaded closed at the factory.

Most parts to put it together are there except for some of the outside trim that was missing when I first got the car.

Car has potential, I don't have time. I'm asking $1750. Worth more in parts, but again I don't have the time, or inclination.

I also have a near rust free frame available for an additional $500. Has one quarter sized hole on the driver's side rail, and the rear mounts need to be repaired.

    Nobody?

Not even a nibble :Do No: ? I've probably made it sound a lot worse than it is. Could be a decent driver with not a terrible amount of work, or lots of good parts :ball: . I don't think I could bring myself to part it after all these years, but it looks like I may have to :Dou: .

    One last try.

Still in my driveway. Would like to see it go to a good home.

    Anybody interested?
