I am going to be restoring my 67 air cleaner shortly. Wanted to ask those members who have done it whose paint & color number red they used? Thanks!

I used Dupli-Color Engine Enamel-DE1653 Red. While it's not an exact match for Buick Red, it was the closest match I could readily find for my valve covers which were painted quite a while back.
The SW air cleaner is not period correct for my '68 either, nor is the matte black intakes, but I'm quite satisfied with the over all appearance of the finished product !! :TU:

    Hi Randy,
Thank you for the info. Appreciate it. :) Your air cleaner & covers look great to me.

I used Duplicolor 1653 to restore mine as well. This is not a great picture. I'll see if I can find a better one tonight with the air cleaner on the engine.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the info. Looks great. Did you guys use a primer in addition to the color?

I used a little pre-adhesive that was recommended by the guy at the auto parts store but only very little. I'll look at the can when I get home and let you know.

Mine was in pretty decent shape - just covered in grease 'n grime from years of storage.
A good bath, after disassembly and a light scrub with a scotchbrite scrub pad was all it needed.
I didn't use any primer for fear of filling in the fine line detail in the top of the air cleaner.
I also removed the BUICK letters, and tri-shield emblem prior to painting, and detailed them while they were off the air cleaner.
As Dave stated - I also used a very light coat of Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter (CP199), a quick drying clear primer which is recommended for plastic parts.
The SW air cleaner isn't really plastic, but it's made from some sort of vacuum molded resin type material.
Follow the instructions on the can - the first color coat should be applied within 10 minutes after the adhesion promoter coat has dried. (...approx. 2-3 minutes).
I applied two coats of colour to the air cleaner and it dried with a nice gloss finish, with all of the fine line detail intact. :TU:

Rivman has it right and it's almost a shame to buy a whole can of the CP199 (mine was ECP199 so probably the same) since you use so little of it but it seems to really work. Just don't use too much. Also, make sure you remove the tri-shield emblem and letters before painting. It is well worth the effort. Attached is a current picture of my engine compartment.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, if you want it to look really cool, you can paint the inside of each intake snorkel black about a 1/4" inch in on each side. I did that on mine. It gives the intakes depth. I don't think it's correct to paint them since they should probably be the same color as the outside but I think it looks cool.

Hey Mike! What size and kind of rims are you running on your '67? they look like 15" but I can't tell. If they are 15", can you tell me where you got them? I'm in the market for some new rims and tires.

gsman has it right too - definitely not correct, but much better with flat black in the two intakes, it just seems to add a little 'character' to the '1 year only' air cleaner !!
What colour is your '67 Dave ? It really looks sharp, and appears to be almost a pewter/silver grey - I'm also a little partial to grey cars.
    . . . when yah get a chance :TU:

Dave, she has 15" Vintage after markets. I purchased the car from the second owners wife. The car had been sitting for approx 7-10 yrs. He bought her with the steel wheels and hubcaps which I had hoped they still had but unfortunately he threw them out after putting the rallies on.

You know, I'm not really sure on the color of my car. It is not the original color since the cowl tag shows NN which would be Burgundy/Burgundy and I can see the color burgundy in certain, not obvious, places on the car. I believe it is a late 90's metallic silver or gun metal gray color. I plan to have some touch ups done by Erie Coast Customs and they will match it up so I'm hoping they can come up with the correct color code.

Hey Flipper! Just make sure you take great care removing the letters and emblem. I used some precision pliers and took a lot of time to make sure I did not break anything. The letters and emblem will come apart but make sure to take your time.
