67 trunk trim blackened or not?

The trunk trim of my 67 Special Deluxe looks all chrome.
But I seem to spot some relicts of faded black color?
Was there originally black paint? Does someone have a picture of how this is supposed to look like?
    Black? Glossy?

I assume the GS is the same trim as the Special Deluxe option. Does anyone have a good photo of a GS trunk trim?

Patrick: To be "correct",the 67 GS trunk panel is painted black in the ribbed area.Soft gloss. After I had my panel rechromed,it looked so good that I left the top of the ribs chrome with black between the ribs. Incorrect, but attractive. Archie

I once bought a trunk panel from a '67 Special Deluxe that didn't have a trace of black on it, nor did it have any holes drilled in it for any kind of script. I don't know for sure, but I think that's the way they came on the Specials. No holes and no paint. Someone with expert knowledge of Specials would have to confirm what I just said to verify it though. Nick

I did not answer this, because I'm not sure either! No question on a 67 GS it was painted semi-gloss black ribs and all. Like Archie (Gokitty) said, some people like them with the chrome ribs showing 65 GTO style. You really need a response from a 67 Special or Skylark guy like Nick said.

Geez, what a beauty! Unfortunately not in my budget.

Correct, there are no holes and no script (and I believe my car is pretty unmolested). I tried to take a better picture of the trunk but a dark garage and the flashlight on shiny chrome doesnt allow for a decent picture.
Until someone with "Special DeLuxe" knowledge chimes in, maybe you could show me pics of how your more or less concours-correct GS trunk trims look like.
I like the all chrome I have now but figured some sort of black would look sporty and match the black in the front door bezels.

So, this thread indicates 67 Gs = black in finned area; special = all chrome; what about the skylark? Mine has faded black between the fins but no indication anywhere of black on the fins. Can someone confirm? I'd like to paint tomorrow.
    Thx

Just curious as to how you did it. Did you mask the ribs or just wipe off the excess paint?

I tried wiping off first, but I took off some from in between the fins as well. So cleaned it out and applied 1/8" green 3m masking tape. I made sure the tape only stuck to the top of the fins and did not press down the edges of the tape as the top of the fin is narrower than the tape. I then sprayed it at an angle so that the paint bounced under the edges of the tape. I cleaned off the skylark emblem while the paint was wet. Then pulled off tape from fins when dry. Final clean up with tri grit sanding sticks. For the fins just next to emblem - I did not mask it. Just carefully scraped off the paint.

The satin black really adds some 'character' to the visual impact of the rear panel on the car.
Nice job, well done !! :TU:
