My 1968 GS400 has a tube on the 400 block with an ear bolted to the center part of the exhaust ports of the head. I also have a 1968 430 without a tube. (I was going to rebuild and put in a 71 Buick). I was going to begin a quest for a tube for my 1968 430 soon as well. I have a dipstick in the block, but seems awfully long so I assumed I was missing a tube too. So what I understand is we can ask for a dipstick tube for our 430s, but will never find one? The dipstick did look a little different with just a flat part just under the finger hole. Does that mean we can use a tube and dipstick assembly from a 400 or 455? Or are they different?
My 430 has a tube. It was most likely transferred over from the original 400 that's long gone. I bought the car with this engine so I can't say for sure. So should I be looking for a tube from a '67 400/430?
Well I’ll be! That is why I love you people on the board. I just assumed my 430 was missing the tube. The dipstick on the left is from the 430 which slides into the block, and the dipstick on the right is from my 400 which slides into a tube. I was talking back and forth with Cole about a BBB dipstick tube. He said he had a few. But not sure if it is pit free. Give him a shout and see if he has what you are looking for.
That one on the left from the 430 I see could work without a tube. My stick is completely different from those in the pic. Mine has a coated finger hole with a shroud just below that. If I can't find the proper tube, i'll try to locate a regular 430 dipstick. Thanks for posting that pic Jerry!
