    suspension

    Denny,
What kind of suspension mods did you make to get in the 10's with a 9" slick ?

    Thanks

Denny - not to br a pain.....if you could get a shot from down low looking UP along the ouside tire line into the upper wheelwell so we can see the clearance to the wheel well lip and also the inner wheel "crease" that rides about 3 inchs above it ?? Thanks......

    BTW -

I also wanted to point out something Harrold Rolls explained to me several years ago.

When I went to get my 8" Buick Rallye's they asked what backspacing and told me how to measure. They also said be sure to measure both sides

Well....as it turns out, there can be quite a significant variance from left to right side, with my car being just under 1/2 inch. It has to do with how the chasis is fit onto the frame and Harrold knows whats needed to correct for this.

Just wanted Y'all to keep it in mind if fitting really close - be sure to measure BOTH sides

    suspension

    Greg

The suspension is not that wild. It has a set of Moroso trick springs, air bags, and competition engineering adjustable shocks. The control arms are the stock ones that we just boxed the lowers.

    Alan

I will take the camera with me next time i go over where the car is stored and get some pictures for you. Should be within the next couple days.

    Denny,
Looks like my setup is the same except for the boxed lower arms & moroso springs athough I have a moser 9" housing setup for a gm. Looking forward to see those pictures Alan requested. I have already asked a lot from you so I'm at a disadvantage asking more. But if you care to mention your current engine setup I'd be interested and if it's streetable or not.

    Thanks
    Again

    Alan,
Good point to bring up on the chassis centering. Other board members have warned to be very careful with side to side differences in BS especially for us 68 & 69 A body styles when trying to stuff it to the max.

    Moroso Springs For SALE!

Seeing this post just reminded me that I have a new set of Moroso "trick" rear springs for a 68-72 GS-Skylark or any A body. Would love to sell them to some one for a bargain as I now use a 4 link and coilovers. I put them in my 68 and ran one weekend but I think that car was too light for them as it only weighted 3200 lbs. I went to a weaker spring and a airbag. Seriously, I will sell them to some one that can use them for at least 40% less than JEGS.
    Thanks
    Jim Netherland

    Engine

    Greg

Engine is a 462 with stock rods, ross 12 to 1 pistons. Heads are iron stage 1 heads with some port work done to them. Cam is a poston 105, TA intake and 1150 dominator. Has a turbo 350 with a manual valve body and 4000 stall convertor. Rear is a 12 bolt with 3.73 gears.
There is more in the car, but if it stays consistant, then that is where it will stay.

    Jim,
Do you have a side view picture of your car when you had the trick springs installed ? I would like to see a 68/69 side shot so I could check out the stance before I put those on my car.

    Denny,
Maybe when you get a chance for those closeup rear tire clearances for Alan/me you could snap an extra side view for me since you run those springs.

    Thanks
    Greg

    Sorry Greg

I no longer own the 68, I have since built a back half 67. I looked but don't have a side pic of the 68 with the Moroso springs.

    Thanks Jim for looking,

I think with a couple more pictures from Denny on our tire clearance issue above I'll know if I like it.

    Thanks

    almost there

I really appreciate the pictures Denny and sorry to be a pain about all the questions but I want to get this all straight before I hit the order buttons. Great snaps showing the clearance on the inside. The 2nd picture has me a little puzzled but its probably just an illusion? It appears the tire is hanging down in the wheel well. Like it was jacked up by the rear frame and the tire was hanging down. From your other pictures the horizontal part of your wheel well trim is almost at the top of your rim but it doesnt look like that in the 2nd picture. It would help to have a side picture dead on showing the clearance on each side of the tire to the wheel well outer edges. Im talking about sitting on the ground a foot away from the car and shooting one picture of the tire outside edge to the wheel well edge towards the drivers door maybe even sticking your finger in there for a size reference and also the same on the trailing edge of the tire to wheel well towards the rear bumper. You dont have the full wheel well chrome trim all the way around like I do and believe Alan has and want to make sure not an issue. I could also use one side shot of the whole car so I can see how the morroso trick springs affect the car stance. I have 2 drop spindles in the front so Im guessing Ill be okay. I personally like the raked car stance.

    Thanks for all your effort

Anyone know why MickeyThompsontires.com only shows sidewall width for all the MT ET drag slicks and never mention section width as when you look at BFG Radial T/As ? Im new to this slick ordering deal and dont understand the two differences.

    fit check

Thanks to the local buick guys we test fitted a 15x 8x15 with 4.5 BS buick rallye on my 69 skylark yesterday. The rim had a BFG Radial TA 275 x 60 x 15 on it. Well it didnt fit. The sheet metal lip that extends on my car about " past the wheel well molding towards the tire was just touching. (Denny, after looking at your pictures again the sheet metal overhang that I have looks to be trimmed back on your car to the molding). It would have fit if I trimmed the extra metal over hanging the molding towards the tire. I should have snapped a picture. I did have about 1 of room on the inside from the widest section of tire to the inside frame rail. I didnt check both sides of the car. I did order from Cokertire.com 15 x 8 with 4.5 BS but they were not in stock and I have since cancelled that order. I need to go to 5 or 5 1/8 BS for my car if I dont want to cut the metal. Ill probably snip some of this away anyways just to be safe. We also measured my 9 ford rearend length and compared to the gm and it was the same 54 backing plate to backing plate. I received the new MT ET Street Radials P275 x 60 x 15 which look killer.

    fit results

I ended up ordering one Weld Draglite 15 x 8 with 5.5 BS. Mounted the new MT ET street radial 275 x 60 on it by hand with a little soap & water. Slipped right on pretty much with a little muscle & it beaded right up with a strap around the tire. Well it seems that with my car there was no ideal fit. The 4.5 BS in my eariler post would not have worked without some trim on the inside.
Heres the results with the 5.5 BS - clearances are from widest part of tire to 1st obstruction.

Outside Passenger 3/4 to 1" (1" with very minor trim)
Inside Passenger 7/16" clearance to tightest spot of frame which was at the very top of the wheel
    Outside Drivers 1 1/8 "
Inside Drivers 7/16" to tightest spot of frame which was towards the drivers door - not same location as passenger

It seems that I need a spacer to run this combo. Even so there will not be much clearance on either side.

I'll be getting a digital camera soon to post some pics. Waiting on 3" by 1/2" wheel studs & some lug nuts for my moser axles. Doesn't look like I'll be testing it this year looking outside at the snow falling. Boooooooooo
They salted & sanded the roads last night so driving season is closed.

    Clearances

I have two different size wheel spacers I'm trying out. These pictures are with 11/32 spacers installed.

That's 3/4" outside clearance no triming yet.

    Inside clearance

Only 9/16" on the inside from tire bulge to frame w/ the 8" rim 5.5 BS using 11/32 spacer.
