68/69 RH Mirror

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

  2. I've been told it is correct, but the seller sure used a poor position to show it, with the mirror pivoted way over the wrong way, like it belongs on the driver side. I might drop a bid on it, but I expect it will go too high for me. I know a # of guys have been trying to find one.

david i am having a tough time trying to determine if that is a passenger side mirror myself. the angle it is presented at does make it look like a driver side. plus finding the passenger side gasket will be tough as well.

Isn't the gasket included? Is that the gasket in the pic? He says ALL mounting "hardware" included. Maybe a gasket doesn't fall into that category. :Do No:

In any case, I wouldn't know the first thing about "correctly" mounting that sucker on a door with no holes.

  5. Making up a homemade gasket would probably be pretty simple though, I think. The seller has 2 mirrors for sale, one is a remote driver side, plus this one. Leads me to believe they came off the same car, so it may be legit. Another board member is checking out his own passenger mirror to compare to the pic on ebay, and will let me/us know what he thinks. I'm going to contact the seller and ask if both came off the same car, and if the RH one is just pivoted over the wrong way.

you could make up some kind of gasket but the original is a hard plastic with a lip around the base, thinking more about it might be the same gasket for driver and passenger side, it is teardrop shaped.

  7. :puzzled: I entered an opening bid, now I have an email saying the bid was cancelled and the auction ended, due to "an error in the listing"... :Dou: I've emailed the seller asking for details.

Anyone know who "elcoprts" is on ebay? :Do No:

That looks like the real deal, I just sent both my rear-view mirrors to the chrome shop and that looks like my passenger side mirror.

If anybody needs a measurement or help with the gaskets I have both my originals I could try to them help with instalation.

    NOS

I just picked up an NOS right hand mirror for my 69 Electra. It has several pads, I may have an extra or 2 after it;s all said and done.

An NOS one went for $189 a few months ago on ebay, I saw a decent used one at BCA Nationals this year for $75, can't say for sure if it sold.

    Joe,
    You have a PM,
Too bad you don't have any British motorcycle parts to trade, I've got 2 Triumphs I'm working on as well as a 74 Norton Commando.
Also, if you find a buyer for my 68 Skylark I'll give you the friggin mirror

  13. Can one of you guys post a pic of a 68 driver side remote mirror? I'm not sure mine is a 68, or possibly a 69. It doesn't really look very similar in style to the passenger side mirror styling. My 68 has some 69 Skylark donor pieces on it, maybe the driver door/mirror is one of them...

As far as I know the 68/69 remote mirrors are the same.

Dave and others, the '68-'69 mirrors are the same no matter what model they say they are for, they are all the same. Remote for a Skylark is the same as remote for a big car, probably the only year that Buick did the same thing across the board. I have the stencils for drilling the holes in the right side door, if anyone needs them I think I have scanned them and can be emailed to you. Let me know if you need them, can email or post. Roberta
The biggest problem I had was finding mirrors and no gaskets or mounting brackets. A friend in CA had mounting brackets repopped, but I don't remember how many or if he still has some or I have them for the right hand side., Email, PM if needed. RV

  16. Mike, Roberta, thanks for the info. But tell me, is there quite a bit of design difference between the remote driver mirror, and the manual passenger side mirror? I guess it's obvious they wouldn't look the same, what with the extra stuff needed for the remote workings, but they seem to me to be more different than I would have expected. Still wondering if someone can post a 68/69 driver remote mirror pic? Just to confirm that mine is a 68/69 style.

  19. Thanks Mike, I believe that is what mine looks like... well maybe not quite that nice! Looks to have a deeper housing than the RH side, is the only real difference I guess.

    just asked for part #

I e-mailed that seller and asked for the part # as i was sold a drivers side before as a pass. side but now i know the correct part #. Suddenly he just pulled the item so it must have been incorrect. If anybody has one please let me know.
