I have a 10 bolt 8.2 "B" Buick Skylark/GS rear end (from a '69 Skylark GS), and I'm trying to find a lower ring and pinion set. I'd prefer 3.42, but would take 3.23. These are no longer available, so I'm hoping for someone who bought a set back when they were, and would now like to sell them.

This is the one that uses the 7/16" left hand thread ring gear bolts, and has the 1.875" pinion shaft. I'd be happy with either a new set or a used set in really good condition.

I know these are hard to find, and I'm just making one last try before buying a custom axle.

There is some talk about Fabcraft making another run of these.

There are also used ones coming up for sale from time to time. Did you ask Monzaz or Brian Trick?

I haven't talked to Brian Trick, but Jim Mitschke (monzaz) is the one who suggested I post here. He has posi units and rebuild kits, but not the gearing.

I currently do NOT have any spare gearsets for the 68-70 8.2” Buick. My last set of used 3:23’s went instantly. I would keep pestering FabCraft to see if/when they will do another run of gears. They offered 3:42 and 3:64. I think last time they were ready to do a run,I had to preorder,so at the time I prepaid for 4 sets, thinking ahead that they would run out, which they did.

I may have a set, not sure of the ratio, have some 65/7 and 68/70, and not sure what I still have left, will look and post back.

Thanks, Brian. I need to get this car back on the road, so probably will not wait unless I get a firm date from FabCraft. I'll give them a call.

I can build you a 71-72 8.5” 10-bolt with any ratio that you want,if you resort to that.

Ken, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, the parts were harder to find than I thought.

It appear I have both, 3.23 and 3.42 ring and pinion set for 68/70

I am not sure of these and am not an expert on them.

Both have the larger bolts, and the pinion dia. next to the bearing, both have the bearing on is about 1.8

    The 3.23 set 13-42
    Ring gear #1283743
    Pinion # 1231465

    The 3.42 set 12-41
    Ring gear # 1382744
    Pinion #1384202

May you or someone can verify these, my parts book only lists the set number, not the R and P number

    Thanks Bill.

Thanks, Bill. I don't have access to any parts books, but that sounds like the right setup. How much would you want for the 3.42 set? You can PM me if you would rather not post transaction details.

Can anyone verify from the information, I posted, if these are correct for 68/70 8.2 Buick, or do I need to post pictures and or more info?

Can you email or text me pictures of the gears? From what you describe, they are right. I don’t have casting or stamp numbers in front of me.

Bill - I retraced your steps and I too only see the set part numbers for those ratios.

    The 3.23 set 13-42
    Ring gear #1283743
    Pinion # 1231465

    The 3.42 set 12-41
    Ring gear # 1382744
    Pinion #1384202

Bill--The 70 Factory Assembly Manual at 4-4.1 suggests that the ones in boldface are correct but the numbers for the 3.42 pinion are incorrect. Check behind me.
