    Hey Guy's and Gal's,
New to the forum but not new to cars. I am looking for a 1968-1972 Skylark, GS convertible TH400 cross member. If anyone has one to spare could you please let me know.
    Thanks, Ron

Bruno I am surprised, the ragtop is narrower as is the sporty I think. I have a BB convertible crossmember it needs a small amount of work on the ends but its all there just a little thin on the edge that goes into the rubber. BB crossmembers are different from SB also

ITs about the 400 turbo..not big or small block...400 turbos have a big slot in them for the e-brake cable hooks...

pontiac 4 speeds use the 400 turbo crossmember

    Convert it shorter...like said...

69-72 Gran Prix has the right crossmember the difference is the GP is completely boxed, its still a stamped steel crossmember, its just boxed from the factory on the bottom for strenght and ride quality, and uses the sandwich mounts..it uses the convert crossmember because it has a boxed frame..but it has the big slot for the brake cables

elcamino uses a narrow crossmember too..but its a tube not stamped steel

Olsmobile uses a stamped steel crossmember in the cutlass converts, but it bolts in like the elcamino tube, but the 400 turbo one appears right with the big slot if it had a 400 turbo

soo..what are you diong with the car> a correct resto or just getting back on the road?

If its a hot rod and not a resto, id use the elcamino/conv its a tube and is bolted in solid..and they are avail new and are cheap

Id personally look for a GP grossmember, it looks right, its stronger, and all 69-72s..all of them..have 400 turbo crossmembers in them, every single one ive pulled have are always mint for some reason...and they are extremely easy to find, and if you dont mention they are the same as convert they are usually cheap..

Check with racebuicks here on the board, he is parting a 70 GP SJ..it may have a good member under it, and he's taking it apart right now...and he has an excellent reputation, so you can trust him.

Add your city, state to your header info like mine says Sunny Seminole, FL.

I have one from a 72 GP.....all depends on your location since shipping a heavy item like this can get costly.

    Hi folks,

    When I converted my non-GS 350 convertible (w/ a turbo 350 Trans) to a 455 w/ a turbo 400, I used the same crossmember.

How was this possible? Inquiring minds want to know! As well, I would like a stronger one, if possible, as I am getting ready to install a fresh 464.

The conv x-mbr is 7" shorter at 47 while the coupe is 54"

You can use the TH350 for a TH400...just run the ebrake cable above the x-mbr or you can make the slot if needed. I have pics on our site.

For people who run drag cars....use the Cutlass member...it bolt directly to the frame so there is less torsional distortion from the drivetrain.
