Correct appearing firewall grommet for the 68 to 72 Skylark and GS with air conditioning. This is the grommet that the 2 vacuum hoses and the AC wiring harness pass thru the center of the firewall to the dashboard. The GM part number was 1385993. My reproduction features an improved mounting style that eliminates the metal core. NO MORE scratching the paint when you install it or separating from the core. Appears 100% correct from the engine side. Made from automotive grade NBR rubber. They are in stock and can ship immediately. Only $20 plus $4.00 for USPS shipping. You will not be disappointed in the fit or quality of this part. A Caruso Performance and Restoration exclusive.
Jim, I believe Olds is different. Nice part I need one will send out check. New mounting style may help keep out the little furry buggers as well. I may even make a slit and make it look even more original.
Dave, it does have the slit. It just didn't show up well in the photo's. To make installation easier I suggest warming it in some hot water and maybe a little dish soap in the groove. I can get them in dry and at room temp but it's harder that way.
Steve--Beautiful looking part! Here's a quick picture I took of an original '70 Olds Abody firewall grommet. As you can tell from the "nearby features" this one is located just above the upper parking brake assembly-to-firewall stud and the wiring harness-to-fusebox junction. In this particular application, the large cable running through it is the optional interior hood lock cable on its way towards the core support and hood lock. This isn't a factory tach car but I thing the factory tach wires were also run through this grommet. It sure looks the same or close to me (this one is also slit). I can get some measurements if you need them. I can also check out some 68,69, 71 and 72 Olds's if you don't have access to any. If it's the same you should have a good market for these in the Olds community. There are a few places you should advertise these for Olds. If you rotate yours so the slit is at 12:00 it looks like there's one hole just under the slit (@12:00), another around the center and the third somewhere around 8:00. Rotate the slit on mine accordingly and the holes sure look dead on or close enough. Thanks, Patton
The Olds part does look similar. The 3 holes look more like they are in a triangular pattern. Is there supposed to be a slit between the 2 holes? What size firewall hole does it go into? Does anyone have an actual sample I could get measurments from? Thanks for the info.
I checked my old Olds literature and it is a different part number as well. The Olds assembly states that the Olds piece was used on all converts and cars with accesories(tach)... Good looking item. Nice
My address is: Caruso Performance and Restoration 664 Hogarth St. Waterford, MI 48328 I can ship 2 or 3 for the same $4 shipping charge if you need more than 1.
Steve this grommet also looks a lot like the one for our cars with cruise. I have an original if you want me to mail it to you you might be ablke to just make different holes since the cruise had bigger vacuum hoses and wires thru them. I'll go out and measure the holes to see if they are the same size . Another question is someone making the square plug for the firewall for th400 equipped cars? John
