How rare of a find is a 68 and 69 GS hood in Excellent condition? When I get 68 Sportwagon back I maybe looking more into this :Brow: AL.
Al, there are both 68 and 69 GS hoods offered for sale here once in a while. I'll bet if you post a wanted ad, some of the 68/69 guys will have a good hood to offer you.
68 Sportwagon David, the only other proplem is I like the 69 hood but is a 68. The 68 hood chrome is impossable to restore and good 69 hood chrome is hard to find. You 68/69 guys know more about that one then I. I guess I'm the strange one I like them all (GSs from 65 on) :bglasses: , AL.
They are getting harder to find now days . most guys collecting them are not willing to sell off. -just my opinyon-
Now i wish i had kept all those 68-69 flat hoods...i had to pitch em all, nobody wanted them...but i did keep all the hood trim...need some??? :Brow:
Hoods Al, there's 2 '69 GS Hoods available last I knew around here, and I think I have at least one regular hood, let me know, I'll dig into the info on the GS hoods and see what I have could bring to Salem, if you are interested.
68 Sportwagon Roberta, If you get a chance check into the 69 GS hood and condition. Do you remember my old 68 Sportwagon? I would only do small "bolt on" upgrades becuase is to nice of a survivor car to make any major changes on. AL.
Keep in mind that 68-69 hood hinges are different. If you get a69 hood try to get the hinges too. The 68 hinges will work but you probably will have to add some shims. Tim
Tim, the Sklark flat hood 68-69 are the same and the Skylark fenders 68-69 are the same (correct me if I'm wrong). I do know that the 69 hood will open higher then the 68 but I could not see where that would affect the hood when it is shut AL.
You are correct. The 69 hinges will keep you from crackeing your skull on the hood. Other than that there should be no difference. I have a 69 GS hood I'd be willing to sell.
Al if I remember right when I put a 69 hood on my 68 the part of the hinge that bolts to the hood was slightly different. I think I had to put a shim under tha front bolt because the hinge stepped down slightly at the front. Tim
I've *heard* of plenty of 68 owners switching to 69 hood springs (for the increased open height) and never heard about any problems of them not bolting up right o No:
Al - Like I said its only what I've heard - CHECK INTO IT !!. I however DID purchase a set of 69 hinges for my 68 Sporty and also have a 69 GS hood waiting in the wings for it - based on the info I heard .....someday
68-69 GS Hoods Alan, it makes sense. I think the 68-69 front fenders are the same on the standard model and the flat hoods are the same, AL.
