Need an axle with the bearing assembly for a 1968 SpecialDeluxe stationwagon. Driver's side rear. Thought that I'd try the board first. Thanks.........John
John i have a rear end from a 68 skylark that i would be willing to disassemble. i dont know if the rear is the same as yours since yours is from a wagon.
I am going to be removing the complete rearend from my '68 Sportwagon. It works fine, I am replacing it with a 12-bolt "just because". If you are interested in buying my complete running rearend, let me know. I think it is the 2.78 ratio (or thereabouts). -Bob Cunningham
Doug, GS models and wagons use the same rear while Skylark models are different. The GS/wagon versions use larger bearings.
'68 Rear Axle Bearing Assembly Doug, Thanks for the quick response. I read George's posting about the difference. I haven't pulled mine apart yet,but while adjusting the brakes I noticed the bearing is on it's way out.---------------------Bob, my SpecialDeluxe wagon only has 39,746 miles on it,but it sat for 25 years. I was under the car tonight and could only find 3N with 362T00 directly under it stamped on the front side of the differential.Appears to be a serial number. I'm interested in your differential, but only want to change out the driver's side axle. ------Thanks...John
I have a complete 68 sportwagon 3.23 posi rearend with big brakes and all. even has a hd 4 pinion posi carrier. 250.00
The 68 Special Deluxe wagon should take the Skylark bearing (RW507CR) and not the GS/Sportwagon bearing (RW507GR) which is no longer available. The Skylark bearings should be available at the parts store as they fit some models of Pontiac rear though 72. As long as your axle is not worn, the bearing just needs to be pressed off and a new one put on. Hope this helps, Mark
