I recently obtained some rally wheels for my Riv, in need of refurbishment. While grinding out the rust on the inside of the wheels, I noticed 3 of the wheels are missing a center ring. What is the purpose of this ring? Do I need to find them for the other 3 wheels? If so, where might I be able to find them? Thanks for your help!

Its a centering ring. some cars had it some didnt. Try to mount the one with a ring on the front or rear. if it fits , great. If it wont go on you'll need to remove it to use these wheels. The one without should work fine.

All chrome road wheels '65-'70 have the centre register rings Matt, the '71 and subsequent years do not have them.
The purpose of that centre register ring was to provide sufficient clearance for optional disc brake equipped cars..
As Steve stated, if your not running factory front disc brakes - the rims are OK to use without the register rings ! :TU:

Check the codes on the rim to make sure you have a matched set. If the code on the wheels without a ring is 895, thats for a 71 and up and should not be used. Not necessarily because of not having a ring but rather the rim will hit the brake drum just has it contacts the hub. The wheel will bolt up without any obvious sign to the installer.
Those rings were spot/tack welded in so would need intentionally removed. Either someone removed them or you have 71 & up wheels.

Here is some good info relative to centering rings.

Test fitted the wheels today... the one with the ring and one without fit exactly the same. I'm using an upgraded drum system so it looks like I'm good to go since all of wheels have the 853 stamp on them. Thanks for the info fellas!!
