Ok, I'm looking for a very nice condition correct OEM Buick 68 wood steering wheel. Doesn't have to be perfect, but not interested in a wheel with multiple large cracks. I'm including pics of what this should look like, for ID purposes. The coloring and wood grain appearance do matter. Please post pics of what you have, or PM me and I'll give you my email address to send to.

I know I have one, owned it for almost 40 years, I will let you know condition of. It's at my place in Florida (going soon). I know they're rare.

You must mean the $699 67/68 'vette wheel? Been watching it. Supposedly same as 68 Buick, but IMO it looks much different than the pics I posted and the oem wheel I used to have. Dunno...

    That is the one,
Unfortunately I dont know enough about them to know if in fact it is the same wheel. For that kind of money, not too sure I would gamble on it, unless it could be confirmed somehow.

And $699 is not a reasonable price anyway. Maybe to a vette owner who really needs it, but geez it isnt even nos.

I actually take that wheel off of the car every winter and store it inside to try and keep it from cracking. I think the steel core heats/cools at a different rate than the plastic and creates the cracks.

For the record, I picked that wheel up 10 years ago for $240 (it did come with the horn cap (with the standard crack) and hub.).

Yep, I'd do the same thing if I found a nice one.

Heading to Florida on the 13th. I will send pics of my wheel. It is from my 68 Skylark which I bought back in 74. I will also look for the special horn button (with a crack as well).

Ok, sounds good. I only need a bare wheel though, already have a nice horn button. :)

Mike, on the Mecum auction from Kissimee FL tonight, there was a red 67 'vette with a wood wheel that they did a very close view of, and it looked to have the same finish and appearance as yours, rather than the duller, slightly rough grain of what we seem to see of the wheels seen to be Chevy wheels.

    bump... still looking.

Is a reproduction wheel an option for you?

I've looked at a couple different repros in recent years. They were poor quality and not correctly made. However, I am about to check out another one.

Exactly-I've found a couple venders that have nailed it with nice color and grain, usually at about $300. I bought a blemished wheel off eBay for a driver for $175 on sale that is OK for the money but wouldn't fly in a nice restored car. My advise-see it in person before you buy it. Good luck with the hunt!

Yeah, the one I have on the way was around that price level, and looked very good in the pic. I'll post more if it turns out ok. Still looking for oem though.
