What is the correct color scheme on a 68 GS grill? Is it all black. Black bordered by silver? Is the black a flat black or satin, etc.. If there is any silver, what flavor is it? I see pictures all over the place. Would like to do it correctly. Thanks!

My 1968 GS400 has a black grill with a silver trim around the outside edge. At certain angles you can barely see the silver.

Im not sure if their were different grills for diferent option packages. Maybe someone else can answer that.

GS grill is the same as the skylark grill except for the color. Skylark grills were all silver, GS grills had the horizontal slats (the center of the grill) painted black with the rest being silver.

Sport Wagons and Specials used a different grill and I believe they were painted all black.

Thanks guys...I've seen pictures of GS's with them all blacked out and others with just the center blacked out. So with that answered is the black a flat black or satin black or something else? And what flavor of silver should I get?

Hey Eric... I have 2 68 GS's and I repainted both of my grills. Very time consuming, but worth it. As crazy as it sounds, I used silver BBQ paint from Home Depot for the silver part. I also used the same silver paint for inside the headlight bezels. I think it looks very original. Now for the black paint??? I don't remember!!! Dang broken brain! I know I did NOT use flat black. I believe NOT semi gloss, but satin black paint. It was also just Rustoleum paint. I've been to the Nationals MANY times and I think my grills look great compared to others. I believe I painted the silver first, then taped over it and painted the black. If you need pictures of the silver part, or the whole grill send me your E-mail and I'll send you lots of pictures. My E-mail at work is John.Carroll@palmbeachschools.org Nice looking car by the way!
    Best of luck....

I painted a Skylark grill a few years ago; I had some 'aluma blast' or similar paint, I did the headlamp bezel flats too, and then a non gloss black(semi or satin, don't remember) for the grill face. I think it came out nice.
