There is some bubbling so I know it does need some welding there. the trunk floor is still solid as I remember. There are several boxes in the trunk and I will have to remove them and check the floor again. The passenger compartment is fine as I recall. The car has been covered for the last 7 years and opened on occasion and all was decent. The story of the car is that it was tied up in a divorce settlement for 10 years,(1990 to 2000) where it sat in a garage. I purchased the car in 2000 after the settlement and it sat in my garage for 5 years while I started work on it. I actually drove the car at one point before working on it. My job at that time had me out of town a lot and did not have the time to dedicate to the car as I was raising a family. I then moved (2005) and the main body sat on the chassis covered with a tarp on the gravel portion of my back yard. It is sitting on a 1970 GTO convert chassis, The original chassis is beside the car. All the extra parts were in my shed and my basement. My wife and I are now empty nesters and are down sizing and there is no room for the car. I have been putting off offering it for sale as I wanted to restore it in my retirement, as I am a body man by trade. As far as a body man goes this is an easy resto. I say that from a professional standpoint. The car will need a complete interior and top. The engine was rebuilt before I got the car, the odometer showed it has about 18 k on the rebuild but it had a broken valve spring so I pulled the engine and disassembled it, it has been in my shed since 2005, I'm sure it will need some work. I have a GM Body manual and a chassis manual for the car, I also have a reproduction assembly manual that go with the car as well. I am trying not to overstate the condition of the car as no one likes surprises. I will get some photos of the car when it stops snowing. I live in the southern interior of British Columbia (90 miles North of the Washington Border) and have a 68 gs 400 convert that I have had for several years and am moving and can't take with me. It is a restoration project. The car is for the most part dissambled with lots of extra parts. eg. fenders bumpers and the like. I need to have the car moved by the 10th of January. If somebody would like to purchase the car but can't pick it up I can arange for storage until late spring if that would work for somebody.I have the numbers matching engine for the car and an extra convert chassis. The original chassis has been sand blasted and painted and the ball joints replaced. I have suspension bushings still in the boxes and many other parts as well.
Here are some pics and more info: ------------------------------------------- The right side of the car at the rear quarter shows the rust I was telling you about. The left side is much better but it is parked against the bushes and I can't get a good shot of it. As you can see the trunk floor is very good, just some surface rust in the middle part, no perforation. The car has never been involved in arear end collision, the factory seems are still very much intact at all of the pinch welds. The passenger compartment is much the same, spots of surface rust but no perforation. The rest of the body parts are in my shed. I have 4 doors and 3 fenders, and 3 hoods, and two trunk lids. I have a very nice grill with the GS emblem and the chrome surround, and lots of everything else. I have also taken a pic of the body ID tag attached to the car. In the pics I have taken a shot of the ID legend from the Body manual, from there you can determine that the car is an original GS Convert car not a Skylark with GS cloths. The manuals are GM factory manuals, there is a body manual and a chassis manual. The assembly manual is a reprint from a GM manual. Also pictured is the original owners manual with the original keys for the car. -------------------------------------------------------
Be alot of work but worth it looks like it to me. I am no 68 expert but aren't GS 400's more rare? Nice honest description.
