Hello all, I can't see to find the part or complete windshield transmission assembly for my '68 Buick GS400. Apparently, the little post or pin or mount where the support arm of the driver's side windshield wiper is supposed to attach is sheared off. I apologize if my terminology is incorrect. Can anyone please point me to where I can find that part or a whole assembly or can the pin be pulled out and replaced? Dr. Google didn't save me this time. Thanks, Scott
I not sure there is a difference for the piece you need, but are your wipers the depressed type or non depressed?
I have the complete wiper transmission assembly somewhere around here, from a '69 Skylark. I believe that they parked below the hood.
We have a member here who repros different things. He repro-ed that pin, and hood seals and other items. I'll find a link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-68-72-C...153047?hash=item19f89bf617:g:JdEAAOSwkNZUidjW
I'll be visiting my small stash tomorrow to check on the parts, but the choice is, as always, yours as to what you want to do.
If the pin broke/rusted .. there's a good chance the spring won't be far behind. I'd suggest a new wiper arm from a rust free car.
I don't seem to be able to find the wiper transmission assembly. Sorry. It'll turn up right after you get one, I'm sure.
I found the technical name of what I was trying to describe: "wiper arm articulating pin." MROLDS69, thanks, I did see where someone may have produced that pin, but how in the world do you remove the old articulating pin without damaging anything? Do you know if a retaining clip holds it in place? I sincerely appreciate the information all of you have supplied!
Scott, just saw this. The pin is very easy to replace, but you do need to remove the wiper transmission. Flip the transmission over, mount it in a vice using rubber grips or at least rags to protect it. Drill a small hole and tap out the pin with a small punch or even a small nail. (It is pressed in) The trickiest part is getting the new one in as you cannot hit the head or it deforms. I just use thin brass tube that goes over the pin head. You can also use a buildup of small washers. The only reason I started making them is about 15 years ago, I bought a 70 442 and the pin was broke. Went thru my entire stash of transmissions and could not find even one that did not have at least some wear on the pin. Just thought there had to be a way to fix these over throwing away good wiper transmissions. Anyway if you do not find a good transmission, I will sell you the whole kit for $7 shipped (as long as you are in the lower 48) (No sense giving EBay even more money) If you are interested shoot me a pm Brian
