Hello Out there! I am getting ready to paint my grill on my 68 Riv. Someone out there suggested to use Krylon dull aluminum on the mesh portion of the grill but I am not sure what to use for the rest. It looks like a dark charcoal color, not black. Any suggestions would be great!

The fist time I did mine it was in the cast alumn and a simi gloss black on the rest. This time after the crash the body shop painted it in a metallic silver and a metallic gloss black. I must say it looks much sharper in the gloss. For the parts of the mesh that need to be blacked out I cut squares/ rectangles out of a flat black adhesive backed vinyl used for vehicle wraps and stuck them in there. Looks great!

Great. Thanks for the advise. I like the metallic idea

I painted the egg crate portion Krylon Dull Aluminum, used 'hand cut' semi-gloss black vinyl for the blacked out areas, and matched the body colour for the grill surround area
('86 GM Medium Grey Metallic), for a very mild 'custom' look.

    . . . here's some pics.

Thanks Rivman. I am taking the same approach but painting the surround area in a satin black. Looking good so far! I have pulled out the headlight assembly's and reprinting all in the satin black. I will shoot out some pix soon. Thanks.

Would love to find a way to cover all of that with some sort of embossed stainless steel. Leaving only the headlights showing through.
