I am getting ready to paint the "egg crate" grill on my 68. Does anyone know the correct colors to use. Mine is pretty faded so I'm not sure. It appears to be silver and matte black? Thanks
Michael: Don't forget to introduce yourself (and your Buick) in the Wet behind the ears?? section of the board :Smarty: Contact board member "Rivman" (Randy) about the factory correct colour. Click here :Comp: I've used Sikkens paint on my 1968 Riviera grille, it looked very similar to the old paint and that was good enough for me This was somewhere in the 90's, so I don't remember the paint number.
Sprayed my with aluminum cast coat engine paint then took a small brush and painted in the squares in the back in black.
Welcome to v8buick and the wonderful world of Riviera Michael !! Not 100% sure of the factory correct colours, but I used Krylon 'Dull Aluminium' for the egg crate portion, which is a pretty close match to the original factory 'argent silver' colour. I used custom cut, hand fabricated, matt black vinyl inserts for the blacked out portions of the grill for longevity, rather than painting them, as they were too hard to mask and paint properly. The grill surround is ' body colour matched' to the car, for a very mild custom look. The original faded grill surround 'pewter grey' colour was slightly darker, but you hardly notice the subtle difference. It took longer to prep the grill, than it did to paint it with the rattle cans - hope this helps !! :TU: . . . here's a pic .
