It was an absolute bugger to take the bezel out of the '68 Skylark Custom. I actually wound up breaking some of the plastic pieces that held the bezel in place. I'm close to full disassembly of the parts, but can't figure out how to remove the light and lighter units from the bezel. Can anyone shed light? I don't have a shop manual like I have for my '67 Cougar std, but not even sure if it would help.

The bezel and plastic part under the steering wheel need to be rechromed, and then repainted/detailed. Would anyone have some good close-up pics of how it should look after rechromed/repainted/detailed on the raised letters? I might just send it to John's Classic Cougars in Holland, MI, and have his plastic rechrome supplier do the work, unless anyone has a better idea?

Finally, would anyone have a good steering wheel? Mine is cracked badly on both backsides of the center unit. Mine is light blue. Thanks.

I've uploaded some pics of the bezel. Please advise on how to take these things off. Thanks.

The plastic chrome ring around the lighter and light s/w un-screw from the front.
Mr Gs Plastic Chrome has these refinished on his site, google his site to see what he has for sale.

Right they do unscrew , the lighter give me some problem , probably the heat of the lighter kinda melt the plastic a bit :Dou:
I have the manual if you'd like a picture let me know .

Thanks for the feedbacks, justalark and 68 Skylark cust. $300 for all the rechromed/painted pieces I'd need sounds reasonable, given they're on the very rare demand side. 68, please post any pics from the manual. I sent a PM to the guy who had the parts, and hope he'll send pics with good parts I can use.

Does anyone know who might reproduce the climate control decal? I have four controls on mine. Thanks again.

1/2 way to fully disassembled bezel

After taking some time to calm down, I realized I only had to hold onto the back part of the lighter unit that the wire connects to, and turn the casing counterclockwise, and voila, that one's off. I was able to unscrew the face-side plastic piece, but still everything is connected. I pulled on the damn headlight knob, just to pop it off, but absolutely didn't budge. Please someone post the shop manual diagram on how this ignorant little piece disassembles. Thanks.

I think there is a small button on the highlight s/w assy, that you push in while pulling out on the shaft knob and that should disconnect the knob from the main part of the s/w assy.

    second
Although the whole thing is chrome underneath (actually vacuum aluminized), it is almost all painted over. The only chrome that ends up visible is the outermost surround, a thin raised ledge around the lower portion where the switches are, and the raised edges around the wiper switch wheels.
