Ok i bought a 69 gs 350 which was supposed to be a 4 speed car but someone put a big car 3 speed in it i was just wondering what kind of trans is it supposed to have? is it a muncie or what i havent delt with many of these cars with a manuel trans. thanks Marc :3gears:
Hi Marc, Welcome to the board! My 70 had a muncie 3 spd in it from the factory. I have heard that some of them had a toploader in them but I'm not sure what years. o No: Someone that know will chime in shortly I'm sure :TU:
Hey Marc, The '69 should have a Muncie. Check the rear gearing, 3.55 or lower numericaly, gets the wide ratio M-20. The 3.64 and higher geared cars have the M-21 or M-22 close ratio. Of course it will be easier and a bit cheaper to run a Borg Warner Super T-10 from a mid 70's F-body. The shifter may not work in the A-body, I know the handle is different. Also, hang onto your linkage for the clutch. This stuff is very hard to come by. The current trans should be a Muncie M-13 three speed. It would have the 10 spline input shaft, same as most Muncies and T-10's. There is also a 26 spline 4-speed input shaft as well. You also state the 3 speed came fro a B-Body ? If so, the tailshaft will be longer. This could mean someone cut the driveshaft down to make it work. If this is the case, and you go to a Muncie, get a driveshaft from a TH350 small block A-body. Good luck, and enjoy your car. Jim '69 GS California 455 Stage 1 / Muncie 4spd / 3.31 posi 12 bolt
