WOW, this must be a very rare Buick! Never knew Buick made an LS model! I think the guy needs glasses since GS is on the qtrs, air cleaner, etc!:af: uzzled: uzzled: uzzled: uzzled: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485173398&category=6144
Alan and I have been watching this one since it is close to his place. He talked to the guy and the owner had the car at a friend's house and didn't really want anyone to come and look at it. Judging by the bid retractions, I am wondering if a couple of guys did, and they have retracted their bids. The other bidder who keeps cancelling is interesting too. Wonder if maybe he was bidding it up on behalf of the seller, and then had to cancel the higher bids as the other two dropped out????
I looked at that car in 2003 when it was listed for sale in local paper for $3,500. The car looks better in photo. Quarters are fiberglass and bondo. original column shift was changed to floor as incorrectly as could be done. The car seemed to have been a racer in its day and a hasty attempt was made to bring it back to daily driver status. I highly doubt it is numbers matching anything; but I am not positive about that. Interior need to be completely redone from dash cover to back window. He has alot of interior parts like new seats and carpeting. Mechanically it appeared to run well. No apparent leaks and driveway seemed dry. It under a car cover so leaks would have shown. I didn't bother taking it for a test drive. Top is shot as is mechanicals to raise and lower it. It is a manual top now and the alignment of bars is such that it will rip from pinching if two people don't raise and lower it. That's what I can remember for now. I'll check my files and see if I kept my notes on it. I looked at car in sig next which I bought. I was thinking of offering him $500.00. I am pretty sure it would not have passed safety inspection in NY if you brought to shop that didn't know you.
Another one with no VIN! WHERE THE HELL'S THE VIN!!!?!?!??! Plus, wrong valve covers. :Smarty: If it's real it's a good deal. We'll never know without a VIN though will we? :error:
i emailed the seller a few times spoke to him on the phone. doesn't know alot about the car. i asked if i can stop by to look at it,and he said he was busy! i said don't you wanna sell it! said it belongs to a friend.
Well, it seems obvious he's not trying to be completely truthful. Another bogus auction. Thank God we know as much as we do about these cars. There's almost no way we could get BS'd with a Buick as long we bounce it off someone here. That's why this site is such a fantastic resource.
this one is eating me up inside......even if it needs quarters - if it goes for under 5K its a steal with the values going up the way they are
Good Luck Michael.....fi there's anything i can do to help, let me knoe. He's not too far from me at all
You could try to do a reverse search on his phone number to find out where he lives? I swear people put cars on ebay just so that people won't be able to come out and look at them! http://www.infospace.com/home/white-pages/reverse-phone
Hi Alan, ok,thanks. i spoke to the person on the phone tonight. and he said he couldn't talk long because dinner was ready. so,i asked if i could call him back after dinner, and he said he wasn't gonna be around. he said the car was repainted, because its shiny. he said under the battery its rusted out.he said he thinks the top works. the rear bumper is also rusted out,as you can see a hole in the picture.
I spoke with him to and have his cell #......Jim, right ?? He was supposed to check some known problem areas for me and verify the VIN # - should be 44667. He was supposed to check for rust where the windshield meets the cowl/inside metal dash area - a known problem area for GM A-Body Converts. Also, underside of doors, quarters, rockers, frame, etc. He told me the car had bondo in the quarters because it was *slightly* bubling. If Jim68Skylark knows and went over the car last year, its not any different as I think he said they didnt do anything to it since they bought it. He told me floors and trunk were SOLID, motor is #'s matching....etc. I really pushed him to let me see it this past weekend - he said several others wanted to also.....I almost had him but he said it wouldn't be fair to let me and not the others....and that if he just wanted to sell it outright he would have put an ad in the paper ?? He thought the starting bid was a "Fair" price and that they'd only be making a couple hiundred if it only sold for that - but they'd be haapy as I think the friend who's storing it needs it gone. That said.....if you get if for, say, 4K and throw another 10K into the body and interior you've got a pretty sweet setup for under 15K - thats assuming the drivetrain is good to go the way it sits Good luck
All I'm gonna say is there can't be more than one of these cars in Ronkonkoma. The listing is not the car I saw. It was an original column shift car with bench and when it was converted to a racer only, a floor shift was installed (really butchered is the correct term) with buckets. The car had a column shift and console shift when I saw it. I was like WTF. Seller was smooth and cool as a cucumber with an answer for every question I had. I was told the fiberglass hood was for weight reduction in is racing days. The paint was anything but "shiny", looked like it was brushed on. The car looked like a roller that was hastily put together to be a summer beach driver with the top down. He said a mechanic had worked on it and it was roadworthy. I think he said it was the original drive train put back into it. I just couldn't believe it by what my eyes were seeing. The trunk looked rotten and the hydraulics for top needed complete replacement. I didn't take it for a test drive because I didn't think it was road worthy. I tossed my notes so I'm going on recollection. The seller was nice, newly married, new family, new house and garage was stuffed to brim with this car outside under cover. I'm sure his wife informed him his toy had to go along with all the accessories in garage.
All I can say is that who ever is selling it must know alot about buicks. Buick made a rare handful of them LS 400 convertibles in '69, and the red ones are the rarest. The LS option was also available on oldsmobiles and chevelles in that year. That car should've gone for 10k+o No: Rare car:3gears: :TU: uzzled: -Cody
Hi Alan, oh well,i guess i bid to low. if he answered the questions with more detail,i would have bid more. i searched the high bidder, and he's from California. so,he has to pay for shipping. i have a flatbed,so if i won it,i would have went down to get it,only a 2 hour ride for me. and if i thought it was not as described,i would have left with no car on my truck i really didn't need it but figured if i got it for what i bid,i would have put it in the garage, and i would have taken parts from my 68 skylark convertible to fix it up.trying to work on my 67 gs convertible. michael
I truly believe you won on this one. Wait unitl the buyer provides feedback; and, you'll see what I mean!
