Hi Everyone,I found a 69 GS400 in the woods today.Way to far gone to be restored but when new it must have been a SHARPE RIDE; it was that light yellow, black top, black bucket interior!! Not much left of car except some good condition GS400 rear marker lamps and the rear axle. My question is what rear gear ratio is most likely found in 69 GS400 with auto trans and air???? Car was on the ground and i couldn't get a look to see if it was a posi or not.Would it most likely be a posi in a 69 GS400 car??

    Rusty,

Just going off the top of my head but I think the standard gear ratio for an automatic in '69 was 2.93. Posi was not standard, so it may be a peg leg...

I will check my books later to verify the standard gear ratio.

Thanks Mike for the info;this was a really sad car now but was probably pretty nice when it went to the woods. Now it has no front cap, holes in the roof, bulldozer when down one side, there are some enigine blocks in the the trunk and floor of trunk rusted out and the blocks have fell thur so i could not see if the rear is posi or not.I will try and talk to owner and see if I can get what is left that is usable.I am not sure if it was a air car as I only was able to give it a quick look.I will try to look again and get more info.

    Mike is correct.....2.93 non-posi is standard for 400 with auto. 3.23 for 350 /auto

I know what you mean as I know where there is a 69 GS400 4-speed convertible. It's a nice blue with a white bucket seat interior and top. It's pretty much gone(rusted) with no front grille, engine, top, and tranny, but I do believe it has a/c. This car brand new would be absolutely beautiful with the color combination it has. From what I saw of it, it has a nice rear bumper with tail lights and a straight frame. It would take alot to bring it back.

Standard gear ratio for a 69 GS400/auto was 2.93. Optional was the 3.42 posi. If you get a chance to get under the car, check the driver's side axle tube. It should have the two digit code to determine what gear came with the car. Here are the list of codes. Hope this helps!:TU:

    1968-1970
    Ratio----Open----Posi Code
    2.56------ LK-------LT
    2.73------ LL-------LO
    2.93------ LB-------LW
    3.23------ LC-------LP
    3.42------ OH-------OO
    3.64------ ---------OW
    3.91------ ---------OZ

    12 Bolt rear.

    Hi Rusty;-
It could be worth checking if it is a Canadian made car.

We put 12 bolt rears in all we made, posi or not.

I HAVE A OWNERS NAME AND WILL TRY TO CONTACT HIM TO GET A BETTER LOOK.Will be hard to get a axle code because there were two motors in the trunk and trunk has rusted out and motors have fallen thur trunk floor, kind of makes getting a look at the rear hard to do,plus car is sitting on the ground in the woods in rattlesnake country. I am a long time country boy and not afraid of snakes;but where this car is at a detailed crawl around look is not a wise decision!!! If car has a posi rear would the posi tag be on it from the factory?? Would have to jack car up to even see that.

Possibly. Not a very good way to verify it though. Alot of people have forgotten to put the tag back on when and if they ever had the cover off. Good Luck!

    Hi Rob,

I keep thinking about this car...is it for sale or being parted out?

I could use a parts car.

    Thanks for any help.

Hi Tom, the car can be bought from the owner of the yard. I can give him a call tomorrow if you want to see how much? If I run out there I can get some pics for you too, let me know. I would just need someone to resize them so I can post them up, thanks.
