Ok all you Ford guys, I have a few questions! A good friend of mine has found his old 69 Cyclone after selling it almost 20 years ago. Incredibly, the car is exaclty as he sold it.

We ran the Marti report on it today and it comes back as a 428 CJ with ram air, 4 speed and 3.91 Traction Lok. He had always thought the car was an SCJ, but the the SCJ package doesnt appear on the report. My other question was about the Drag pack option. Is that an actual option that would appear on the report as well if it were so equipped?

    TIA!

I recall the SCJ has the 427 rods and and a seprate external oil cooler up front. The oil cooler is either in front of the radiator or it is a CJ. But I yield to higher Ford authority.

Ive been doing some research. Looks like by ordering the 3.91 Traction Lok rear, Ford included the Super Cobra Jet engine mods.

The car does have the 427 cap screw rods and oil cooler. Also has a large "N" on the third member. From what Im reasding, it seems that Ford made it all into a package deal called "Drag Pack" which included the 3.91 rear and Super Cobra Jet engine mods.

So do we call this Cyclone an SCJ with Drag Pack or is that redundant?

seems to make sense. If its gonna spin faster why not try to hold it together?

428 SCJ is a package 391 or 430 gears, 427 Cap Screw "Lemans" rods, oil cooler. Could be had with auto or stick. With ram air or not. The Cyclone is a rare car with the SCJ option. That is what constitutes the SCJ or "Drag Pack"
There is also an additional weight on the snout of the crank to make up for the heavier rods as is the flywheel.

IIRC, the "N" cast into the third member identifies having a higher nodular iron content. Here is more info about that > http://kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

Thanks for the info. The car is a rare machine for sure.

I cant belive how quickly the Marti report came back. I think it was like a one or two hour turnaround! I did request a rush job for an extra 10 bucks. Got my money's worth!

FWIW, the car is 1 of 653 with these engine transmission codes

1 of 408 with this paint code (Red)
1 of 1693 with ram air induction

Came out of Glennar Lincoln Mercury Sales in Lafeyette, In.

I found it for him last year two states away. Now he's buying it back! I cant understand why all my friend's wives hate me.

Having him sit his wife down and explain to her that he's taking a $15k loan out for "some old car" he sold 20 years ago for $3k is payment enough Brad. Im pretty sure my name was mentioned in the conversation a couple of times

Say goodbye to that kitchen renovation! :bla: :Dou:
