Hey guys. Have a 69 amfm radio in my 65 skylark. The lamp is out. Can anyone tell me where it is located and can the bulb be replaced with the radio in the car. Thanks, John
The bulb is located inside a small metal holder on top of the radio. It's easy to change, but I don't think you can do it w/o removing the radio.
I'm sure it's there. AM/FM used a different holder. On an AM, the holder is round and pops into the top of the radio. On an FM, the holder has like a clip on it and slides inside the radio. The wire comes from inside the radio. Sometimes they put tape over it. On an AM, you can feel the bulb holder and wire. That's why I said I don't think you can do it in the car. That's assuming the radio is factory. Look at this 70 radio, it's similar to this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Buick-...ash=item489a6fdce6:g:~CEAAOSwOgdYwwb8&vxp=mtr
Thanks for that info. I removed the radio and there was tape over the top opening. No problem changing the bulb. Thanks, John
Sure...glad you got it done John. The tape is there to help focus the light down and keep dirt or things spilled down the defroster vents out. You can use duct tape, you should replace it. It's way better to take it out to do an FM bulb, there's transistors near where the bulb goes in and bad things can happen if you poke around in there w/o being able to see! AM's are easier.
