Finally finished the restoration of these 2 consoles. I have restored 6 or 7 consoles in the past and many of you know my work. Unfortunately, there is a very good chance, I will not restore any more of these in the future. Over the years I have asked for parts, restorable consoles, shifters & parts etc, and almost no one responded, so, because of that plus, good, quality used parts ie: Buick Insert, are getting difficult to find, what you see below is all I have left. This first console has been totally restored. ...PERFECT. NOTHING left untouched or UNrestored. This 1970 Automatic console has been dismantled as well as shifter totally stripped including the felt brackets. EVERY PIECE has been media blasted, painted, assembled, some with grease in the appropriate places. I start with solid UNCRACKED console bases. Rechromed the center piece, (other than labor, this is the most expensive part) mask and paint the PRNDLL letters, apply new woodgrain decals, purchase new console door chrome trim and apply matching woodgrain decals, rechrome the "U" shifter base, new billet aluminum horse shoe handles and lift bar, REBUILT LATCHES, (yes, I even take the latches apart and repair busted return springs etc) and install new rechromed PUSH BUTTON, media blasted HINGES with new springs too! Professionally polished stainless trim INCLUDING both ends, hand picked and hand polished BUICK insert finish off the restoration with perfection. READY TO INSTALL AND SHOW! 1970 SHIFTER AND CONSOLE (woodgrain handle) as shown: $1450 The second console is almost as nice, the difference is this one already had a very nice chrome centerpiece, few very minor, slight, almost undetectible imperfections, very showable, I just felt it was not worth the expense to restify this part as it was VERY DECENT as is... Again, the console base was excellent to start with, and as the above console, totally disassembled every nut, screw and bracket. New woodgrain, new console door etc... rebuilt latch etc, polished stainless, totally stripped, media blasted, painted & rebuilt shifter with new aluminum pull up bar and horse shoe handle as well. READY TO INSTALL. 1971-72 SHIFTER AND CONSOLE (black handle) as shown: $1150. SHIPPING: I will pack and ship the SHIFTER separate from the console at buyers expense, however, the buyer will pay UPS to package and ship the consoles. GET IN LINE HERE FIRST, then PM me for details Please. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wheels, Beautiful work as usual no one knows all the hours and dollars spent to get them to this point. It is getting harder to find all the pieces needed. Tony :TU:
ThanX for the kudos Tony! O'ya. WAY WAY WAY too much time invested in the restoration of these consoles... but they are SUPER! Thumbiddy out there needs one or both...ray: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Tell me the costs! I had the chrome console insert from the console of my '72 GS rechromed 3 years ago and it cost me $640.
Wheelz, Any advice or tips to restore the Buick emblem on the console? How did you paint the PRNDL letters on the console. Are these not part of the chrome panel? Lastly, what paint do you use for the black on the console? Yours sure look beautiful. I hope mine comes out looking better than it does now but probably nowhere close to yours. Thanks, Lou
Hey Lou...just send me your console and parts and I will restore them to better'n new for ya! MUCH easier than trying to teach you how to do what its taken me years to perfect... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Sorry, I thought the idea of this board was to share and help fellow owners. I remember when you had a problem with a temp gauge I spent some time reviewing material and sent you how to test it and what the specs were for the gauge and sender. I guess I should have just told you to drive it up here and I would fix it for you. I thought this was a pretty neat place but it seems it is just for the good old boys. I have learned and I won't bother the board again.
Geeeze Lou, havin' a bad day? I was merely stating there is a right way, and a shortcut that you will not be pleased with results. I can actually perform the task faster than explaining how to do it... Sorry if I offended you. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
70 Console & Shifter SOLD! The second console & shifter is up for grabs... WHO needs one??? WHeelz, Tampa Bay
HERE'S AN IDEA to chew on: JoHan, needs a complete shifter unit: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?280201-1970-skylark-horseshoe-shifter-wanted&goto=newpost The second console (above) I have offered, is an extremely nice, just short of a high quality semi restored console! IF you have a shifter, and NEED a console, reply here first, then email me: PenWheelz2@ij.net I would consider separating my console & shifter for this opportunity only. JoHan gets a shifter. Thumbiddy else gets a very nice console. Everybody happy. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Guys...I remembered I had this reply from Jearbear back in December: Originally Posted by JearBear Hi Wheelz. WELL?... I still have this last console available. Its the one in the pix with the black handle. UNlike the first console that Stacey (PraireCanarie) picked up on saturday, this one is just short of TOTAL PERFECTION because of the fact that I didnt see a real reason to spend the money on replating the center piece chrome since it is already quite nice. :TU: I would separate the console and shifter IF someone needs one or the other.... :Smarty: OR ~ I am open to REASONABLE OFFERS for this unit which otherwise, has been totally restored with new decals, cleaned and SEM black applied to the console base, rebuilt latch, new door lid chrome, repainted hinge and EXCELLENT BUICK INSERT TOO......ITS A perfect finish for your 70-72 interior! ...almost forgot to add the shifter has Mike Garrisons gorgeous billet aluminum horse shoe handle and lift bar! You wont be disappointed! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Johan.... I would consider selling the SHIFTER separate BUT ONLY AFTER someone buys the console first. WHY? Well, glad you asked. It certainly seems like most Buick guys have consoles but no shifter.... SOOO. . .if I sell the shifter to you I would be like most Buick guys..ie' a console without a shifter. 'Jearbear' early on, wanted just a console and I've tried to reach out to him several times without any response.... THAT would've been a perfect scenario... but it hasnt happened. So, its back to square one. I am open to reasonable offers for this restored CONSOLE /SHIFTER package! ray: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
