OK, Who has a 70-72 Buick A-body that was built in Framingham Mass and still has the original glass. I need to get some info for an article I am working on. Thanks. Duane
Duane, 71 post coupe work? I believe I also have rear tinted glass from a 1971 GS 350. Let me know what you need.
Guys, Thanks for the response, and yes a 71 post will do just fine. What I am trying to do is find out which glass manufacturer produced glass for the various assembly plants. So, I need the following info to verify the glass is original to that car. 1. The year, type vehicle, and build date of the vehicle (You can get it from the tag on the firewall. 2. The manufacturer of the glass, ie PPG, LOF, etc, and the info that is etched with the logo. There is a date code there that I can decode. To be honest I thought I had this info for all the buick a-body plants, but realized I was missing the info for Framingham Mass. and Leeds Missouri. If someone has any Leeds Missouri info that would also be helpful. Thanks again. Duane
For my '70 Skylark 350, build date 05C (3rd week May 1970?) here's what I have as best as can be seen with these old eyes: D/S door window PPG Safety Plate AS-2 26-40 Solid Tempered DOT 18 M7.8 D/S pass. window same as above except 27-30 and M20.8 Rear window Safety Flo Lite AS-2 27-30 DOT 18 M20.8 P/S door window same as D/S except 27-20 M7.8 P/S pass. window same except 26-20 M7.8 Windshield PPG Flo Lite Laminated Antenna AS-1 120 DOT 18 M25.1 Hope this helps. BTW, which is the date code on the glass?
Gary, Thanks for the info. According to the numbers you listed here, it looks like all your glass is original except possibly the front windshield. I think it is also original, but you have one of the numbers wrong, which is completely understandable, the numbers are small and I have old eyes too. I will PM you the date code info you requested. Thanks again. Duane
Duane, Its killin me not to break down those glass codes but I will wait to see your article to verify what I think is correct really is correct... :bglasses: I understand (I think uzzled: ) most of it except the plant code. Your article should be very interesting :TU:
Mike, The glass date coding systems will not be discussed in this article. I am only using them to verify that the glass is correct for each vehicle, and from this tell which manufacturer was used by GM for different plants. This article will talk about how parts sub-contractors were chosen by GM and how finished cars were dispersed. Regarding date codes, I have finally decided to write a book about all the date coding systems used on our cars. It will include the cast in date codes, shift codes, and time built codes on blocks, heads, etc, glass codes for LOF, PPG, and DCL glass, front end sheetmetal and body date codes etc. Basically it will decode everything except engine and trans production codes, and will include pictures of every style dating system, as well as reference which parts used each system. The idea is that if you use the info in this book, and have a knowledge of part numbers, you should be able to verify that every component of your vehicle is correct. I figure the resto guys will love it, and I expect it to be finished this spring. Duane
Duane, Before my fingers froze: Windshiled: PPG Shaded Soft-Ray AS1 131 DOT 18 M53L PS door glass- PPG AS-2 26 11 DOT 18 M20-8 1971 Post Coupe. Will get build date if you need it. Also, will get the rest of the glass #'s (if you need them).
George, I don't need the rest of the glass numbers, but I could use the build date of the car. Thanks. Duane
Duane, My 70 Skylark is a Leeds plant car. I even have the original buildsheet for it (or 2) and I am sure the glass is all original except the windshield which I had to replace. If info is needed I can get it for you and post it for you. Pat

Thanks guys, That's all I need to finish the article. I wanted to include both the Leeds & Framingham Glass info to finish out the major Buick a-body plants and can do that now. It should prove to be interesting reading, and the conclusions will answer some questions people have asked me about for years. It should be finished tonight and then on to the next one about Mark Reeve's Motion GSX. Thanks again. Duane
