70-72 GS Wheel Well Trim Questions...

    I hope this post is in the correct place. I recently saw a set of 4 wheel well trim for sale and it was titled "70 wheel well trim". Another post had the trim titled "71-72 wheel well trim". Is the there a difference in 70 vs 71-72 wheel well trim? I read somewhere that some of the trim was 8 screws and others were 9 screws. Is one correct for a specific year? Also, I know there is front wheel well trim that has scallops and some that don't. Which is correct for which year? If there are different trims for different years was the change in a mid year production run (early 70 as opposed to late 70) or just with a new year? Thanks Again! Mark

    Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

    From everything I have been able to find out. Early 1970 had no scallops but later 1970 models did and so did the 71-72. If you look at GSX's they had scallops. so the non scallop ones were like a few other things different on early vs late 1970 cars.

    Does anyone know the original reason the fronts were made with scallops? Or, why they changes away from the scallop design? AND, are all (70, 71, 72) of the rears the same?

    The later 70 cars used scallops because of the G60-15 Tires. If you have the non-scalloped style and hit a big bump while turning the wheels the tire will literally grab the molding and try to rip the lip off.
    I can't tell you how many times I had to "bend" the molding back to the correct shape on my old GSX look-a-like.

    Once I put the later molding on there was no problem.

    Station wagon rears have an extra screw hole but beyond that I don't remember any differences.
