I took off the rubber pieces that are stapled onto my inner fender wells, they are still in good condition but I was hoping to be able to buy a new set.
I was also looking on the Year One web site and it looks to be that they sell some, but not for sure, they call them the inner fender splash shields? I am not sure this is what I am looking for but it seems right and the part # they are going by is LP904. Does anyone know if this is the set I am looking for? Or does anyone know if there is someone else that repros them, I would like to buy a set, thanks. And also for those that have put new ones on their cars how did you put them back on? Did you folks restaple them on? Or did some people glue them back on?

Yes they are called splash shields but that is the YO internal number not a GM number. Staples are the correct fasteners.

So what type of staples would you use? They are a pretty good size staple, and where would I be able to get some at? Not only that but what type of staple gun would I use besides your regular househole one to get them to penetrate through the inner fender?

Usually the best thing to do is try to re-use the originals. They are bigger than alot of houseold staples and are a bitch to get open to get them out.Persistence will pay off in the end. These aren't the nicest things to put on.What you can do is line up the old flaps with the new ones and poke the holes in the same place before installing them. You should have the wheel off of the inner fender if possible to make reassembly easier.Yes a couple spare hands will help too.If you can get a small enough nail(6d or close to it) and sharpen it so you can poke it through the flap to make the hole too.You can't use a staple gun since the inner fender is thick.I would think after you get the staple back in the inner fender, you could use a body dolly and a small hammer to re bend the staples. This ranks up there with heater blower/heater core and front E brake cable removals.....Not real fun but must be done.

Either YO or Postens used to sell the staples in a pack.

So I still have the question on what type of staple gun would I use to get these staples back on? I don't see a regular staple gun being the answer to penetrating through that thick of metal, but if I bought the splash shields from Postons with the staples that come with it, what kind of gun do they expect you to use? I would not reuse the factory staples, not that they couldn't be reused I just want to get fresh new ones on there.

I believe that you have to put them in by hand in the original holes. Thats why you need the old flaps as a guide. Tap them in and fold them over by hand. As you stated, no gun will work.

That kind of sucks since all of the factory staples did not penetrate through the metal, some just went through the splash shields and the ends of the staples folded over. I suppose I would have to make some holes for the staples that did not go throught the metal from the factory.

Last question for you folks on this one, I am in the process of stripping the undercoating off of the inner fenders and I have gotton most of it off, but some of it wont come off in the hard to get spots, so do you guys know if there are still places out there that can do some sort of hot tanking or something to these? Or what would be the most cost efficient way to get the rest off, since I have tried the hardest of hard core oven cleaners, which did a great job but wont get it all off? Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Andrew,
Try to get a heat gun and a scraper this usually works with a little patience.Again, not fun but worth it in the end.

With the inner fenders off the car I held the splash shield in place with one hand and drilled through it and the old holes to accept the new staples as they were a little larger OD than the OEMs, including the holes that didn't make it through in the factory. I Then used needle nose plyers to curl up the staples on the wheel side of the inner fender. I wasn't going for concourse with mine and it worked for me.

Sounds good this is what I thought I would end up doing. I recieved the Inner Fender Splash Shields from YO and they look great, except that they only sent me enough staples to put one on. It's hard to find good help these days.
