Nicholas, Do you have a part number? Are 71-72 fans the same? I have a 7 blade fan in my pile of parts. If I don't need it, it's all yours. Please let me know what differences there are between all 3 years and also in terms of A/C and non A/C cars. Thanks!
That looks like it! What year motor, and can you measure the diameter? I believe that the 70 fan is 2" smaller than 71-72. I will measure my shroud when I get home--I think the 70 should be 16".
That would be it!!!! (Just went out and measured--shroud is 20" and aftermarket fan in there now is 18") How much do you want for it, with shipping to 77035? Many thanks!
Isnt 2 inches too much room? What is too much room and what is too little clearance between the fan and shroud? o No: Thanks :TU:
No, that is just right. Remember, since this is a circle within a circle, that makes 1" between the tip of the fan blade and the shroud.
Buick Parts books say 70's with 455 and AC or heavy cooling used 7 blade 18". 71-72 used 20" 5 blade. The 71-72 fan shroud is bigger. I don't think a factory Buick 20" 7 blade exists. Anyone have one?
So if my shroud is 20" and I get a 7 blade fan like I want it has to be 19" because there is 1 inch clearance all the way around. Gotcha. Thanks, now I can get a fan. :beer
I got a 7 blade fan from a 73 Regal that is 19.5" I think all or most of the 73-77 A-body models with AC got the 19.5" fan w/7 blades.
No no no no no...... A 19" fan in a 20" shroud will have 1/2" of clearance. Think about it going across: edge of shroud--1/2" clearance--19" fan--1/2" clearance = 20" You could probably run a 19" fan, but I'm pretty sure thay only exist in 2" increments Also, your shroud would need to be mounted perfectly centered and not have any movement. Not to mention good motor mounts. You have to take into account that all this stuff moves a little under engine torque, bumps, etc.
