Common problem in circle track racing.

We weld a notch on the rearend housing and on the frame, and then bolt a chain to the frame and rearend, using the amount of links to limit the travel a little.

Actually read an article not long ago where Jeff Gordons crew had their chain snap, and the spring was lodged weird causing the cross weight to be all out of whack...even the big boys do that trick. Obviously you dont want to do that though lol.

Interesting. I just installed rear springs today in my Black 71 GS because I didn't like the ride height. A little to high for my taste. The ones I took out today where a snug fit where I needed a crow bar to wedge them out. After I took them out I noticed the spring was exactly like the new one except it had an extra ring on it. Just measured it now at 14 1/2" , wish I had seen this thread before, then I would have measured the new one. I had them side by side, there was at least a 1 1/2" to 2" difference though.

Anyway, when I installed the new ones I also had to hold them in place as they didn't even reach the top until I lowered the car. I did measure the height before an after from the ground to the center of the bottom of the wheel well moulding. With 255/60/15's all around there was 1" difference going from 27" to 26". Still that inch made a big difference in looks. Looks as if I'll have to watch those pot holes also.
