Does anyone have information on how to attach the rubber strip (1" X 48") that attaches to the body between the bumper and trunk to hide the rear panel seam? Were staples used to attach this strip to the body or screws? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Philip
They used staples to attach it. I bought some stuff for my car that is the same size as the factory stuff but it doesnt have the ribbed lines in the middle. Do you have the correct factory stuff?
Screws My 36,000 original mile 70 Skylark had the strip held in with screws. I think this might depend upon what plant the car was built at. Mine was built in Freemont,CA.
Mine had screws and i cleaned up that rubber strip with some lacquer thinner and replaced the screws with small stainless washers and stainless screws. Looks mint, will last forever with no rust! Bob
I'm assuming that was 70 only as I have never seen a car with it before? All mine have been 71/72..... Pics? Interesting stuff! Tim
Staples or screws? The body lip of my 70 GS has five holes accross the area where the rubber strip is attached. It does'nt look like staples were ever used. I would enjoy seeing pictures as well of either way...staples or screws
I can't provide pictures because my car is currently undergoing a frame off resto. I can tell you that my rubber strip was held in by 5 screws along the body lip.
Guys, How is this for a picture. This picture is from a 70 White GSX that was repainted. The rubber piece has never been removed and was stapled on, not screwed. The white paint shows the lines in the rubber nicely. Duane
