My wife has this 70 Skylark. fairly original stock for the most part. As so it rides low in the rear. particularly when loaded on a trip. My thought was to change the rear springs, but what to use. I do not want it up to high all the time. I had considered air shocks to adjust it as needed.

So what do you guys run.

Vista cruiser springs, Big block elcamino springs are good to, best way is to measure yours free standing height and dia then go to Moog's website and look for your springs to find the rate #s and then find a taller spring with similar or larger rate#s

Next time I get a chance to get the spring out I will check.
What replacement shocks , any suggestions. We do drive the car to shows and some 5 to 8 hour trips. so its more a cruiser.

Get Moog cc501 rear "cargo" springs. They are variable, soft ride, but stiffer when loaded.
And nice factory appearing stance to boot.
Put tight windings up and the wider spaced coils on the axle. Install two rubber cuhions on the top of coils for a quiet ride.

Tried air shocks many years ago. They rode so rough, and caused severe wheel hop when I got on the throtle. Good way to break an axle.
I went to air bags. Like going from a old wood wheel buckboard wagon, to a Cadillac with air ride.
The stance of that sharp Skylark should stay within a 1/2" or so from where it is now with cc501 springs. A good shock (KYB) should make it ride real nice. Those springs only stiffen when under a load. You may not gain anything with airbags except to raise the rear up.

Thanks. that is helpful. currently the springs are so soft that last year when we went to the PSMCDRs the car was very low. to low once loaded. so I was hoping that whatever spring I get sits that bit higher and maybe down to stock when a bit of a load is in the trunk.
