https://www.streetsideclassics.com/vehicles/3611-dfw/1970-buick-gs-stage-1-455 A friend is interested in it. He's owned several Stage 1 GS's but been quite a few years since his last one. Going to request the rest of the Wayne Roberts report. I kinda remember someone on here trying to sell a similar car for a deceased family member a while back but not sure if same car. I'll have to search the "cars for sale" & "leads." He's not looking for a numbers matching car - Just something that looks stock from the outside but that would make a good driver & preferably w/ 450-500HP. Isn't looking to do any bodywork/paint but doesn't mind diving into the drivetrain if need be and doesn't mind the bench seat. He isn't a stickler for it being or returning it to "all original." Stuff I saw at 1st glance while on the phone w/him: Looks like an early tach/speedo(?) (01B body so possible...) Wrong radio/bezel Appears to be converted to disk brakes Rear bumper gap (seems easily fixable) Front bumper pushed up in middle (adjustable?) Later 15x7 wheels Metal dash too glossy Missing pass. side inner fender flap Obviously there's also the aftermarket gauges & engine/ignition/headers, etc. Curious if the transmission is orig. although I'd suspect not since the dealer didn't mention it. I'm sure there's plenty more so have @ it. Big concern I noticed is the salvage title & even furthermore is it because of flood damage. Lower front control arms look to be pretty pitted. Ballpark value? It's a consignment so the dealer is going to make their % & it'll be up to the owner to accept an offer. I know what I'd offer but will see what everyone says. I may also post something in the "cars wanted" section to see what else is out there but if anyone has or knows of a similar NOM '70-72 GS 455 or Stage 1, let me know & I'll pass the info along.
Don't know anything about it, was previously at VOLO though. https://classiccars.com/listings/view/1014731/1970-buick-gran-sport-for-sale-in-volo-illinois-60073
Thx. Chris. He saw it on eBay. Interesting it was @ Volo for a slightly lower price - Any idea when that was? Wonder if someone bought it & is now selling. I don't know if Volo takes consignments.
I'm surprised it hasn't sold it's been for sale for over a year plus something may be up with it I would definitely look at it in person . The starting price is fair probably get it for a couple grand less.
Same car I remembered from awhile back: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1970-gs-stage-1.312715/
Dan , Looks like the red 70 Stage 1 I bought from Bill England , bench seat , no air . I had the car at the 1994 GS Nats . and sold it to a member in Wisconsin . It did have the correct WG"S , fast car 12.50's back then ! bill
Price seems close but for that money it should be a little more correct. Seriously monkeyed with. Streetside classics showroom doesn't help it any either.
Make sure your state will allow you to title a salvage title from another state without extra requirements.
Street side has a 30% markup beyond what the owner would take, problem with these consignment shops, you can make an offer, but if it’s more than let’s say 10% lower than the asking price, they won’t go to the owner with it because it’ll cut into their margins. Only one winner in the consignment game, just like the auctions, and it’s rarely the buyer or the seller.
Just noticed that the power brake booster gets vacuum from somewhere in front of the engine bay instead of the rear of the intake manifold. Probably has a vacuum pump. Cam probably too wild for sufficient vacuum from the motor.
Seeing as it has a "correct" 12 bolt and 4.10 gears, I'm sure it is worth the $35k asking? I was thinking thirty with the description you gave. Doubt a guy could build one for less. But without the numbers drivetrain a lot will pass on it. It does have the sell it red paint and I guess a 75 code to go with? I didn't look. All told a $40k car once you pay and transport it. Worth that? Maybe if I win the Powerball.
It is a factory red hardtop from the factory, non numbers matching drive train definitely hurts the cars value wise but the color combination should help it a little bit.
I think this car was for sale here a few years ago. My memory is vague, but I think someone was listing it for a widow. Maybe somewhere in Illinois at that time. I'll be darned...A successful search. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1970-gs-stage-1.312715/
