I have wondered why Buick eliminated the the catch clip in the far left part of the dash in 71. I have had other people tell me it should be there but here is why it is not(unless someone added it). In 71 the round push in stud at the far left of the dash pad was changed to a blade type pin the has a horizontal orientation. It will not pysically fit into the clip without huge distortion of the clip and the blade is even 3/4' Higher than the round pin.. IF you use the clip you could damage your 71 dash. It is less important what year your car is but what dash you are using as after this long lots have been swapped. If it has round peg then use clip. Blade type peg then no clip. It is too easy to brake these things by forcing them so be careful. I just discovered this today when comparing dashes to use. I cannot believe I never noticed it before but the two 71 and two 70 dases I have around confirm this. There are no date codes on these other than crayon markings that I think are day/month but no year.
