Just got my original mirror back from the chrome platers and I’m assuming the grooves and tri shield emblem are supposed to be painted black.

What’s the best way to paint?
And does anyone have a picture of theirs I can reference?

    Thanks,
    Nick

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

    Degrease the area.
Mask around the tri-shield and lines leaving a margin.

Paint with good quality satin black.

    Let dry 24 hours.

    Remove tape.

Then use olde t-shirt wrapped around finger with acetone and lightly buff leaving the black in the embossed area.

You will get the hang of it.

    If you mess up, repeat.

I used a toothpick, and dipped it into the paint, and then into the grooves. It is time consuming but it works.

Thanks for the photo. Looks like I need to find some acetone as I only have black paint in spray cans. Unless the wife/kids nail polisher remover will work LOL :)

I have some Eastwook underhood low gloss black and Eastwood Radiator Satin Black paint. Thinking of using the Radiator paint as its stated to be thinner.

Well, been busy today...Taped up, little wipe off test, re coat with paint and final wipe down. Used some Brake cleaner instead. Sprayed on shop towel and used a piece of the cardboard roll to act as a flat edge so I didn't get into the grooves. Especially the tri shield. I see a spot where I used a tooth pick to drop some paint in (left bottom shield). Still could use a little more wipe down and then a quick buff when it's totally dry.

Threw in a couple before pics before the chrome plating...Chrome plating is not show quality, but 10 months later (never that place again) and only $125 beans, I think it was worth it. Now to remember how to put it back together

Thanks again for the help! And hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Nail polish remove is overpriced acetone with perfume added.

You can generally buy pure acetone in the paint section at WalMart.
