    Ok guys,
who can tell me what this wire does. I have a 70 GS and the wiring is a mess right now. I have one black wire with an orange stripe on it that appears to go some where near the air conditioner compressor. The wire has been cut so there is no end to it. I want to clean up the car and get rid of old wires that I don't need anymore, but my only chassis manual is for 68 and it doesn't show this wire at all. The only black orange wire the 68 manual shows is going to the heater blower motor, which I do still have, so it can't be that.
Anybody have a 70 manual that can tell what this is?

My GS manual is a 71, but the wiring should be the same, not 100% sure though. Looking at my wiring schematic, the black wire with orange is for the heater blower. One goes from the blower motor to the fire wall connector. One goes from the heater resistor to the blower switch inside the car. Do you have a wire currently running over to the blower motor under the hood?

The wiring diagram shows a black wire with orange starting at the blower control switch to the firewall plug then from the firewall plug in the enging compartment to the heater resistor then to the blower motor. If you have that wire in the engine compartment, then it was put there sometime after it left the factory. Trace it back until you find a splice.

What size is the wire? The blower wire (black with orange) is a #10 wire. The compressior wire is smaller (about 14 gage) and I beleve it was green or blue with a black ground (two wire plug).

    Rob,
From my 70 Chassis manual, like Mike and Craig stated.

I do have the air compressor already hooked up with the green wire. Its this goofy black/orange wire that is chopped at about the same length as my wires that end in that area.
I have all the wires unwrapped and there are no splices anywhere...looks like factory stuff to me.

Do you have a wire currently running over to the blower motor under the hood?

Yes I do have the blower wire hooked up. But the weird part is my car has the black/orange #14 wire that runs from the blower motor directly to the heater resistor. Then #16 black/orange wire from the resistor into the switch on the dash.
I don't have a black/orange #14 wire that runs from the fuse block directly to the blower motor. According to the diagram I should have but my blower motor works the way it is and I appears to be factory made???
