I live in Mississippi, Biloxi on the coast. Batton Rouge, LA is arounD an hour away. There is a large industrial company there that does everything. I spoke to the shop manager and he said they would blast the frame and cross member then powder coat it Black for $700.00. Is this a fair price?
Great price even if you had the equipment space and your own free labor you would have $400 to $500 in blasting material quality primer and paint. Tony
Where's the place in BR? There's a place in Harahan, LA that powder coats the chassis for all the sprint car guys around here, can't remember the name, but he might be able to quote you too, and it's closer than BR.
I got some quotes back in 2003 (wow!) in the Phila, Pa area: Lowest prices were in the $400 range. Usually about $150 for blasting alone, and $200+ for the PC. Then add the prep cost. Ask what they do for prep....they should blast, pressure wash and treat with a acid or metal conditioner to treat the metal.....bake dry, then do the PC and final bake. Some places will even do a primer coat before the final black PC. Look in the Yellow pages and get a couple of quotes and ask about the prep!
P.S. Might as well get the A-arms, rear control arms, front inner fenders, rad support, and maybe even the rear done too!
[ My Bad. Pulled out my notes their in Slidell. http://www.corsoinc.com/index.htm I would like to but the entire front end and rear end have been removed, sand blasted, Painted and built with new parts already.
I spent close to 850 for frame, suspension parts front and rear, sway bars, 2 cross members, rear housing. Blasted and powder coated. Mine tuirned out great but some of the syeps I imagine were skipped. I wonder why you would power wash before coating it. I can say that I have smacked the frame several times with wrenches and such with no chips.
That's what I want to do with my spares, then when I have time-swap :TU: Hey Gears, that between the both of us! Gonna have to call them up. P.S. The power wash is to get rid of whatever media they use and clean it up.
Roger, be back in Kenner on friday and will drive down and see whats the 411 with them. Post contact info if they are good.
Good deal if you get to pick the shade of black and you bring all of the other parts you want powder coated. Seems a lot of the time they coat it with gloss black, but to each thier own.
I did alot of checking in the LA. MS. AL. Southern state area. Their basically the only ones I found with a big enough oven or that would answer the phone. If you know of anyone else that is good to check out let me know. As for on the Mississippi Coast it's a no go. Gulf Coast Powder Coaters closed up here last year. J if you or Gears beat me there in the next 2 weeks or so let me know what you see. All I have left is some steering and A arms to remove and I can Trailor it over there.
Ok, I forgot today is good Friday and more progressive employers, not mine, close for the day. So, I copied the info off the door of the shop:Kirkfield's Auto Body 504-737-6018 Harahan, LA Good luck, hope it works out to your advantage. My wife drags me to Biloxi about twice a month to gamble away the milk money, I'll have to look you up.
