Okay some of you GM trans specialists, I"ve got a question. My brother has an l990 silverado pickup with 350 and 700r4 trans. when first started will not shift up from first gear for quite a while after it warms up a bit it will but seems kind of funny You have to let off the gas for it to shift. any suggestions? any help appreciated. Im not a GM trans. specialist by any means, but to me, it sounds like the bands may be slipping...when my tranny was going bad, it got to the point to where it would not shift unless I let up and off the gas, but it wouldn't matter it wouldn't do it when it was cold, it had to get warm before it would slip. More than likely, it's not a slipping tranny, but just a thought, maybe someone else here who is a tranny specialist can chime in and fill you in on what the possibilities of it are. :TU:

It sounds like the TV valve is sticking.

The first thing I would do would be to pull the pan doiwn and see how much junk is in the bottom of the pan. If there isn't a lot of chunks or metal pieces I would invest in a Trans-go shift kit. These kits come with a new TV valve that help to keep the TV valve from sticking.

    Good luck

Pulled pan down oil didn"t smell burnt but was very dirty. checked tv valve seemed to be free. changed filter and added new oil. also added additive. much better but still aacts up sometimes. Have yoiu ever changed tv valve? I need to know how to get the sleeve that the valve slides in out. Thanks again for info. Bernie Steffen zstef@mchsi.com

Id put a oil pressure gauge on the TV pressure test port and check against manufacturer specs. Dont have the specs here at work...

The valve body has to come off to do this

If you spend the time to do this put a shift kit in it also. It will make a big difference in the life of the trany.

You can't see the part that usually sticks by just removing the pan. There is another valve behind the plunger that the cable operates that can only be dealt with when the valve body is removed.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their info. Will order a shift kit and get after it. Its still running for now and I don't have any gaskets for the valve body so I won't take it off till I get the kit. Thanks again. Bernie Steffen
