    Howdy,

With the proliferation of the Scarebird front disc brake kit and the usage of the same caliper across GM's fullsized line from 71-76 and beyond in trucks you would think they would have an aluminum caliper out for these models? As far as I can find there isn't one though. Anyone know of an aluminum street caliper that is a bolt in replacement for these parts or do I have to go to the RRS system to get both disk brakes and aluminum calipers?

    Thanks,

You forget to take into account the cost of steel and aluminum. Buying, casting and machining an aluminum piece will always be more expensive than steel. So, you will never find an alum caliper unless it is on a Corvette. You are not going to save that much weight with a caliper anyways.

Close Tom, those are for the next generation of the B-body GM platform 77-88. I need a 71-76. Thanks for the refference though.

I believe you are sadly mistaken George, I know of Aluminum calipers for a very wide variety of platforms including the GTO, A-body, 89-96 B-body, W-body, H-body.... both bolt on and upgrade on different brackets. While mass is not huge, because its unsprung its magnified and every little bit counts especially when you are trying to not just go fast straight but also corner. I'm not looking for custom calipers, not in the least but I would consider some more expensive street calipers if I was able to use them bolting onto a scarebird bracket. If all else fails I can do the RRS system but thats about $1300 so not cheap and it still uses iron factory hubs while a billet hub kit is almost $1800. Most likely I'll just end up with factory calipers on scarebird brackets to save money then upgrade later. Still would rather do it in one step not in mulipules.

Might ck with SSBC & their Force10 4 piston caliper applications. Believe there is an application for '73-87 Chevy pickups. Not near my Hollander books, but that caliper should work on GM '71-76 B series.

    Got Posi?
